Had an early evening ride to the very top..it's rare that I do this and only with a clear sky as the real fun starts some 175m further down the hill on the man-made trails ..but with a clear sky it's worth doing for the fantastic views .
I feel a bit jipped too as it's only 100ft short of being classed as a mountain ( 1900ft ) ...which would obviously make all the difference ..haha
Another mention too for Russell & The KTR crew ..the improvements you are making are incredible ...and I have agreed to lend a hand on a weekday when the re- routing of the bottom section of Twist & Shout is started ( can't do Sundays ) .
So ..the pics
Part way up..Kielder Village & the northernmost tip of Kielder Water
The only way is up...
The tree sticking up on the horizon lends it's name to another of Kielder's trails ..."The Lonesome Pine " ...even though it isn't actually a pine ..but a spruce !
To the right you can just make out part of the 2km section of wooden boardwalk ..the longest on these Isles 2m wide due to the adverse conditions we sometimes get ( it's usually sunny though !) And built due to the extremely boggy conditions ..a brand new JCB disappeared forever into the bog when building this section ..which slso ate into a large and unaccounted for part of the initial budget ..
Recent felling ..
Nearing the top...that radar installation is new ..and there was a lot of work going on
The history bit ...
Looking into Scotland
Looking to the east ..the hill in the distance is The Cheviot ..which gives its name to these parts which at 815m is classed as a mountain.
Nearly there ..
One of the speakers left behind from a Motorhead gig a few years back ...lol
Some call this effing monstrosity "art" ..
I call it a waste of space ...and the only art is what's propped up inside it !
Classed as a shelter even though it offers none ..
I would have been more impressed and it would probably have cost less if it had been a Portakabin with a stove inside ..
What a waste of money ...
Great view though as it gives almost a full view of Kielder Water (9 miles long )
Let the fun begin
Enjoyed that this evening ...and it would be great to show you lads from further south around if you can ever make it this far ...
