That's a shame Gaz!? Have you found out exactly what the problem is? Have you tried other type of sports/physio, like Pilates or swimming for a while? it's all about the core strength sometimes. As you know I also suffer a bit from back pain, comes and goes depending on how hard I've been training and lately due to everyday commuting on my rigid I feel it a bit...but I hope I never get to that point!

Martin Ashton can do it I am sure you can
Sorry to hear it mate shame you got to sell up with all those KOM s to get
Hope you can get back some day if things ever calm down my Mrs loves going out on normal rides on her bike with me ( especially down to the pub ) but her back with nerv damage and sponalosis (if that's how you spell it ) really plays her up I have to keep trying different positions with bars stems seats to get her to feel at ease but nothing really works so it's only a few miles each ride now

Sorry to hear this Gaz. Hopefully you can get it sorted - back problems are horrible. Try a good sports Physio or Chiropractor see if they can help.

Yes, this sport is not great for people who have back problems, that's for sure! However, a lot has to be said about having a proper bike fit. My previous bike used to give me quite bad lower back pain...ok, you could also argue that it was a HT but I still think i bought a size too big. Really sorry to hear for both Gaz's...taking morphine as if it's Maltesers can't be a great thing!?

I have the same issues . neck/shoulder injury has retuned and now look like i will have to have surgery as my upper arm feel like its been hit with a sledge hammer , along with numb lower arm and numb thumb . doctors are now saying trapped nerve in neck and effecting my neck/shoulder/upper arm/lower arm and hand .the numbess in is horrible and past 2 weeks now cant sleep at night even though we have one of those foam beds .IM on neproxen at the moment and doc says if that dont work to take the swelling down then its physio when that dont work its then MRI scan , then Surgery . what i have is called Cervical Radiculopathy . and its painful and cant eventhink about riding the bike . i have been sufering from it for a couple of years now and comes and goes but im convinced its down to Knots in my neck pushing agaisnt the nerve as i can feel lots of lumps . these are from when i weight train and didn't warm up a few years back. i had same problme last year and the other side(left side) it went with physiso and anti inflammatory (Neproxen) this stuf not even working any more its crap . thats not to add my already lower back pains . just dont want to put all that weight back on with the self pity and boredom .

Bad news for you too Killi - feck me makes you realise how lucky I am to be pretty much pain free at 54. hope you all get sorted - but I honestly don't think morphine is the answer - though I totally understand Malamute's reason - it's his job.

Yes, agree - morphine to ride a bike sounds bad Gaz - hope it gets sorted! I'm on slow release morphine twice daily (100mg), as well as anti-inflams (naproxen) and muscle relaxants (gabapentin). I need additional painkillers just to ride the bike Just got hospital appointment with pain clinic. 7 MONTHS! whats your neproxen dose ? mine is 500mg twice a day and its crap but doc told me can take 2 weeks to work ..wtf , i had 3 a day 500mg last year for my foot and shoulder ..cant take ibuprofen with neproxen only paracetamol which is also shite . im gagging to get back on the bike . on the last week few days of neproxen and its another trip and will demand an MRI as im convinced its all to do with my neck and these knots need popping .. doc did mention Cervical Epidural Steroid Injection before surgery would happen . But this can actually make it worse .
