for anyone who might be interested or knows this area, this was the scott mtb marathon, ruthin yesterday. 56k, nearly 5900ft of climbing, 4 hrs 45 mins for me. could have been much tougher if the ground wasn't so dry and firm. and that was only the middle distance. www.gpsies.com/map.do?fileId=vvawnwfnbbdminzr

Really wanted to do this one but it clashed with the Brecon Beast. Hopefully will do this next year. Was it mainly off road and what were the decents like, fast flowy or technical and rocky etc?

yeh its an mtb event, 95% off road. descents were mostly fast and flowy not really much technicality, but I suspect that's a H&S issue. out of the ones iv done before, i'd say that the church stretton one was the most technical......good one that!

Sounds good. Was the church stretton one the route that goes over lond mynd. I did that in 2012 and was tough hill wise but nothing too techy until Minton Bratch descent which I found tested my skill on a HT.

that's the one. but I suspect the organisers wont want loads of injuries so are careful about not including too much technicality.but they are good events......weekend camping, bar music/band/sponsers stalls, event photogragher.

Well done Glynn That looks to be a pretty decent time given the distance and amount of climbing involved... Was this a race( seems to be ) ? Where did you finish?

its not classed as a race, but anyone who wants to can treat it like one.most riders just treat it like a huuuuuuuge forum ride .they don't give finishing positions but its possible to work it out with everyones times if you could be arsed.

Minton Bratch is the narrow route from the glider club. The bottom section is easier but you feel like you might fall down to the stream all the time on the top section. Hoping to go over Long Mynd soon to try the more fast and flowing descents.

nice 1. you might find that you do better than you're expecting. in the events with a large number of riders, you seem to get helped along by the occasion.............embrace the toughness!

You'll be fine but don't get caught up in the whole race feel, go at your pace at the start. Better to finish strong rather than collapsing!
