Staying fairly local this weekend ..certainly Dave,Jean & Jaco can just roll out of bed for this ride from their Hexham homes ...
Still awaiting confirmation from Jaco with regard to the whereabouts of the start line ..but naughtiness guaranteed on this one !

Just heard from Jaco...while he still hopes to be there he is erring on the side of caution as he is at a wedding "do " on the Friday evening ..so "just in case" he has asked to be relieved of leading the ride .
To be fair we have all been around the area quite a few times to be able to cobble together a decent enough ride if the Italian stallion doesn't make it ...
Meet at Ordley at 10.00..and we will take it from there ...

Well that was my favourite ride of the year to date ...fantastic weather loads of very naughty new trails ..one of Jaco's magical mystery tours ..27miles of which 99% was off road ..on a mixture of dusty and very muddy singletrack / moorland track a lot of which we had never been on before ..a great way to escape Bellingham Show / Night ..which gets on my tits

The pics .. Naughtiness from the start ..today's bad lads and lasses. Dave, Jean & Jaco   We are alright ...this bit is legal bridleway ...   Into Slaley Forest where the climbing stats in earnest ...this is a "private" forest and a lot of the trails were created by motorbikes in the first instance ( illegally ) ..this has been clamped down on in recent years but what's been left behind is some fantastic trails for mountain biking ..a lot of which is been overgrown through lack of use ( catch 22?)...still lots to have fun on though and we reversed the route on the return leg for some fun payback    After traversing the fantastic singletrack bridleway which is Carriers Way you reach a shooters lunch "hut" ..so we did lunch..  Looking at the pics in the pub afterwards me & Jaco entitled this one " gay Dave"..Nice pose mate ...    View from the Hut  More to follow ... |

What followed lunch was another naughty bit and it was the first time we had ridden it in this direction ..which gave a much better descent...( won't be the last !) I had stopped to take these pics ..but you don't really get any idea of the length or gradient .After a treacherous start on overgrown doubletrack with lots of hidden boulders it just transforms into some sweet singletrack with chest high bracken near the end.  Jaco far right ...Dave middle left ..love the contrasting colours on this pic !  More pics to follow.. |

So..later in the day after lots more naughty pedalling we ended up at Gibraltar. This place is home to a beautiful old derelict building with absolutely no road access for miles ..which is probably why no one had removed the kitchen range and iron bedstead which if restored would be worth a fortune ! The only living things to have access to this place are the cattle in the field ..such a shame ..    ...great company ..good laughs and a perfect ride . Cheers all! Gutted I missed this - did not get finished my home chores till 10 so couldn't do catch up Looks fantastic and my type of ride! Anybody up for the Cairngorms so that I can make amends for missing this

While I would love to say yes..that's a trip too far for me Colin ..I have asked around our local lot & beyond to see if anyone could share the cost of getting there / room ..but to no avail .
