The cassette is getting worn on my HT and could do with a new one - so thinking of possibly going 1x10 with a wide range cassette.
If I ditch a ring up front and go with a N/W do I need to alter the chain line at all?
I assume it's the outer ring that gets replaced with the N/W?
Is it worth going oval too?
What about re-sizing the chain? Do I still wrap it round the largest rear/front and add 2 links?
Thanks

I have a wide range cassette 10 speed 11-42 on my hardtail love it was using 30t up front but just swooped it to 32t to try it as the 30t I seem to be in between gears all the time. Got Oval on my f/s and defo thinking of doing same on my HT I don't seen to bounce on the saddle so much with the oval as I can get a better rythem on stroke. Works components at cannock do a good one cheep.

What Bob sez. Deffo think the oval improves pedal rhythm and the Sunrace 10 speed is on the Chief and shifts lovely. Jases link is a bargain, though I went for this one, cos it's got red and black in it Charlie the bike monger

I regret not going oval because i think it helps on the climbs from what I've tried. Eventually when my NW chainring needs replacing, I'll be getting an oval for sure.

It does G - absolutely. I'm a rubbish climber still, but there is no doubt the ovality works really well in 'smoothing out' the pedal stroke, especially if you are trying to put some power down. Less snatching, less losing the rear grip.

Once done you won't go back. First mod i did to my first bike. Meant i pushed a bit on most rides in Scotland, but soon got used to it. Now running a 34T 34T?! Strong mate. I'm running 32T with a 40T on the back...sometimes i wish i had 42 or even 45...these hills around the Peaks are not easy.

dont know if any of you guys are loaded but how about this for bike jewelry boys.
cant find the link but my local bike shop cyclestore have in ther display cabinet shimanos latest cassette at a cost of £350 and im sure he said its an 11x46 ratio or something like that. looked bling but £350 for just a cassette is crazy. said the ratios made it more like a 12 speed gearing ??
