..The hard lads version ( lol) ... That's to say the bits that most of Joe Public miss out on the Lonesome Pine as it involves a lot of climbing...namely Ant's Path ( yes that Ant ) ..the climb after that which has no name , the switchback grunt that is Simon's Tester..Capon Hassock..the greatest section of trail in the whole forest due to the way it was built and Stairway to Heaven ..which is best avoided if it's even slightly moist ! 3.5 hours and the only riders I saw were on the short section of the Lakeside Way at Lewisburn where I started and again on the way back from Kielder at the end . So the pics .. The start of the singletrack at Lewisburn The section after Ant's Path The entrance devised by yours truly ...Hodgy's Hump ..so called at the time ..but nobody knows ! And the exit at soggy bottom which I always checkout first ..bottle at the first attempt but manage to clear by the third ! The first couple of pics ..and I can see you thinking what's the problem ...and it doesn't look too much of a test does it? But the last pic is from in the stream and shows the true gradient .. More pics to follow ...

Next section ..the climb up to and onto Stairway to Heaven ..the longest section of mtb woodwork in Britain at 2km ..2 metres wide due to the unholy open nature of the trail in autumn & winter and only complete nutters tackle it when wet unless they have a death wish ! It also gives at the top the most fantastic view of Kielder Water ..all 9 miles of it and although I thought I had taken a pic ..it would appear that I have not ! No worries though as this is the first place where I am based on Saturday with my Marshalling duties for the Kielder 101..I will take one then although the forecast is for rain ( great!) The tree from which the whole trail takes its name even though it's no longer Lonesome and it's not a pine This is the way I'm going down and down some more ... This is one of the most fully booked buildings in the country for people wishing to visit ...the Observatory at Kielder home to the Dark Skies public fascination More pics to follow ..

After dropping off the woodwork you soon arrive in tree cover where Russell & Ian have been doing some great work ..repairing & re-profiling ( and adding some little jumps!) to the trail. Again these pics don't do justice to the gradient or swoopiness of the berms ..or the atmosphere ..it's quite primeval. I also noticed that the good work is continuing onto the lower section after you come to the forest road ..all good stuff. This in turn leads on to Skyspace..one of the many "artworks" within the forest and on the lakeshore ..some of which I really like and others I think are complete tosh ! This one being on the way to the Observatory I really really like ..if you are lucky enough to get it to yourself it's so peaceful.. After this another great drop to the valley floor on Skydive..and then up the other side on Deadwater..pics to follow

Skirting Kielder Village and the first part of the trail from the hire centre ( it was closed by this time) so a fire road climb brings you to the first part of the "new" Deadwater climb ..which I am gradually warming to ( but preferred the tree cover) . You can see the Lonesome Pine tree left of centre on the horizon ( shown earlier in the thread) Kielder Village in the middle ground After a fire road section to get you there and more climbing the reward is the fantastic " Into The Valley" drop which in turn brings you to Jimmy's Hill then the frustrating " All along the Watchtower " section ..which as it is uphill I have varied success at clearing depending on how knackered I am ! Again these pictures don't do the gnarlieness full justice and as you can see I didn't clear it this time as I've stopped in the middle ( lol) Looking back.. Still to do.. So after dropping past the hire centre all that was left was a gentle cruise for a couple of miles along a section of the Lakeside Way to Lewisburn where I had parked up .. Hope you enjoyed the trip in pictures ...as much as I did riding it...

Here's the photo Neil missed for you. It's one of my favourite views in the country. Hope you don't mind Neil but this one is in the sun!
