...and I'm a bit worried! Not for myself as I have been here a number of times ..but today is my lads first visit and although at 13 he is a big unit ..it's a " what if " parental kind of worry . He's well up for it having visited the trails at Kielder throughout the summer he has tackled lots of the red sections there and if I'm being honest having done that he should be well prepared for today ..his mate who is also coming even tackled some black ( downhill ) sections at Kielder yesterday ( we werent there )but then wondered why he had an otb!.. What is niggling away at me is perhaps their fearlessness and a touch of over confidence ..but like it or not we are starting on the " blues " ...and we will take it from there boys !

It all seemed pretty tame and safe to me Neil, well on the marked trails at least not the off piste, no big drop offs, gaps or bad rock gardens to worry about. Maybe just the fact that carrying too much speed at times could cause a problem. If you stick the trails I'm sure you'll have a great and safe time.

Yes John ..I'm sure you are right ..having done all of the blacks reds and blues ...while I wouldnt exactly call them tame ..knowing what to expect is half way to being safe . It's the fact that these young pups don't know what's around the next corner that bothers me and the point you hit on about carrying too much speed .. I won't be preaching too much though..and I've got a large pair of scissors for the apron strings..lol.

Have a great day and don't let them see you worrying or that will have them doubt themselves. I know it's easier said than done. I bailed out of taking my daughter(14) on the black at degla and regret it now. She did get to do tarw du(black) at coed y brenin with her dad on monday though and did go over the bars on snap. She got back on the bike and said, glad i got that out of the way and carried on. If i was there i probably would have freaked out and that would have made things worse!!! It's great to be young and fearless, plus teenagers seem to bouce better than us:-) Have a great day.

Just remember, there was a time when you didn't know what was around the next corner on the trails. The only way to learn is to do it. They will be fine mate, hope you all have a good day.

Thanks for all the well wishes everyone ..and my fears were unfounded as the boys did brilliantly and were a constant surprise. We started at Buzzards Nest and kicked off with Berm baby Berm then Electric Blue then headed out on the blue red climb and came back where it returns on the way up towards Spooky Woods climb back to Buzzards Nest which meant we had a second go at BBB ..then as we had a late start scoffed our lunch..headed out to Spooky Woods climb & descent having satisfied myself that they were both capable ..Kian in particular should be a fighter pilot as the boy likes to get airborne ..but came to grief near the bottom where a large rock was sticking out in the middle of the berm..sending him over the top and into a tree ...he complained that his wrist hurt ..but said he was OK ...and managed everything else for the rest of the day just fine ..every bit of red trail was covered and the lads were buzzing and loving it ... At the end of the day we had a luxury ice cream in Innerleithen .. Then down to Galashiels for a Maccy D's...where Kian once again said that his wrist was really hurting ..and upon inspection it was double the size of his left wrist ..cue a trip to the Borders A & E.in Melrose..where an X-ray was inconclusive as to whether he had a fractured scaphoid ..it's currently classed as a clinical scaphoid and a further x-ray is required tomorrow if things aren't any better ..so in a splint for now ! I'm amazed that it hadn't troubled him at all during all of the riding after it happened ... So a disappointing end to a brilliant day ..but they can't wait for the next time ..Hamsterley next ! Well done boys ..you were amazing !

Soon they'll be kicking our asses on the trails and telling us to keep up. What happens then?? Do well feel jealous and proud at the same time?? Don't think it will be to long before we find out.

Great pics hodgy, can't believe the young lad didn't want to go to a and e until he finished his ride, what a champ!!! What did you tell his mum when you took him home??? I got stuck in a and e once after babysitting my 3 year old neice and cousins child (also 3), a toy broke and the little batteries inside were missing. The little bastards told me they had eaten them. I was soooo upset i took them both to a and e. 2 hrs later, 2 x-rays and a check with a metal detector we were sent home. The batteries were found the next day, the little toads had posted them down the back of the radiator cover. Felt sooo guilty having to phone my sister and cousin at the time though:'-(

To be honest Kalli he was feeling no pain ..he reckons he must have been high on adrenaline and it was only as we were sitting down in Mcdonalds that it started to bother him again . He kind of lives up to his surname ..which is Rock ! His mam was fine ..we kept in touch once we had decided to have it checked out ..the surprise for her would be if he didn't have an accident ..he is one of those kids ..and as she has another two boys younger but in the same mould as Kian I think that it has almost become like water off a ducks back over the years . He is going to have to go back for another x-ray in 10 days though as he was still in pain after a nights sleep...gutted that he has been told to stay off his bike..but over the moon that he will be unable to write when they return to school!
