At the lakes ride, we were all having fun about these tiny creatures and how they usually like to attach themselves to areas of....huh...moist on your body... Funny enough, after yesterday's ride in the middle of the Peaks, proper off road, sometimes not even on marked-trails...today when i woke up i actually found one just above my knee, between my legs...it was quite small, maybe half the size of a ladybird, but black and surely sucking my blood for almost a day, leaving a small red blotch in its place.
So word of caution to everyone, specially those who tend to ride off-piste...check your body, nuts (if applicable) and cracks thoroughly!

How did you get it off G? i managed to remove it just with my fingers...luckily it was a small one and maybe it was not really attached yet...even though i felt a tiny pull on my skin. I've heard before that a lighter does the trick if they are really stuck. I've been checking the are and all seems fine...also tcp it...

Get yourself to a local pharmacy and buy a tick remover.. You're not really supposed to pull them off with your fingers..to late for this one ..but you can leave something behind doing that .. If in any doubt get checked at the docs .you don't want Lymes disease ..it can give you a bad case of OCD ... Oh hell ..are you sure this is your first tick... Joking apart ..better safe than sorry!

Bit of a bump on this. Is a hook or card better for removal?

I've never had the occasion to use one but a hook is what's sold in these parts..

wouldnt have thought that a card works, as you have to twist and pull the tick at the same time.id go with the hook

I've started to realise with a few recent documentaries and Instagram posts, that it is more common and serious than I once thought! Today after Cutgate (yeeeew) I've made sure I properly checked myself...apparently they also like to go on your hair which is even more dangerous! This might not be for everyone, but if you trim your legs it also helps to detect them...besides helping your cycling! Lol

I've just finished watching the programme I recorded the other night . The final statement was that Lyme Disease is one of the fastest growing vector born diseases in the western world . It showed a number of patients who had been diagnosed with the disease and were being treated ..none of whom had yet been cured ...at least three had confessed to having serious thoughts of suicide...due to the debilitating form of the disease and the constant pain . Quite frankly ...it's frightening especially when 50 % with the disease have been initially mis-diagnosed by their GP..many of whom are ignorant of what to look for...and the length of treatment required . I will be honest ..up to this point I haven't been checking myself too thoroughly ..but will be from here on in ..get your wife or partner to check those parts you can't check yourself ...always spray a repellent during insect season ..that's all but winter ..and really start to take this threat seriously ..before its too late !

What are the effects of the disease? I still can't believe I had one sucking on my leg for a whole night...lucky I was!

I think it varies ..but a feeling of being completely run down / in extreme pain. There was one patient convulsing on a hospital bed .. Lymes it turns out is just one of ten possible infections you can get from a tick bite ..fun huh !?

I recorded it but haven't watched it. I have a second blood test a week today and to be honest feel fine. However, the bite still has a small lump and is itchy but no rash. I think I just had an allergic reaction to an insect bite rather than it being a tick.

You will probably need an interpreter for parts of it ...one woman in particular had the thickest Irish accent I have ever heard ..I thought she was speaking a different language...also keep the remote handy to fast forward the ads ..you will see why.. The message is clear enough though ...
