It's a 57. Just got it so under warranty with garage. Just have to get it back to them which is in tring! Anyone who came out via newby bridge may have seen it sitting forlon and forgotten on the garage on a590. Luckily I used to work up there and one of the lads I know got me and bike back to Preston. Back up tomorrow to recover it and arrange the transport to Hertfordshire. It sounds a pain, and it is, but cheaper than a 1500 quid bill for me.

Another top days riding, excellent company once again and a great route, I really enjoyed the footpath alternative, it had everything, bogs, mud, slippy rock and deadly roots, brilliant fun. www.strava.com/activities/731083191Thanks guys Sorry to hear about your car Mike

Thanks gaz, shit happens sometimes. I rushed this morning to get there as well. Hodgy apologies for message saying wait for me then don't wait. I did wonder when I left the first message if I had tempted fate.

Its an e61 with the dreaded n47 engine. It had had new timing chain dmf and clutch 10k miles ago at a cost of 4k so I thought it was going to be ok

Mike ..just back and really sorry to hear your woes with regard to your car . I picked up your voicemail messages this morning but unfortunately was unable to get in touch directly as my phone doesn't pick up numbers when its voicemail ..the only options being listen to the message again, save it or delete it ..my apologies..it would have been good to meet you ..next time !
With regard to the ride ..really great to see Gaz & Manf again ..God I wish I had their stamina ,fitness & finesse on the climbs ..nothing seems to faze them..summed up perfectly by Manf on the very last climb where attempting to negotiate a large step up on some very slippery rocks his back wheel was just spinning out like he was attached to a turbo trainer and he just kept pedalling for what seemed to be 5 mins before admitting defeat ...great determination ! It was also a pleasure to meet Mike ( of the Roundie variety ) another really good rider..and a good bloke too . Great to have most of the usual North East crew along ..thanks to Paul Graham Dave & Jean . Really enjoyed the day and glad the footpath alternative worked out ..but we were lucky not to have met that group of po -faced ramblers on the legal bridleway we were on at the time ..5 minutes later when we weren't ! Fantastic day out .. Cheers everyone ! I didn't take too many pics today ..but I will post a few later .

Smashing day out chaps and Jean (or is it OK to use chaps as a non-specific-gender, wet, muddy and slippy trail-related term of entire and wholehearted group respect?) Everything was incredibly spiffing and terribly jolly. Much amusement and entertainment was contributed by all. T'was an honour and a privilege to ride once more with Roundie and Manf, Gaz of course also (but could be getting sick of seeing the three of them disappearing either uphill or down).. Totally joking natch, mostly as they were always first to all the gates. Thanks boys I'm still grinning btw.. and not only because I'm just back from the pub after a large plate of very fine beef lasagne and chips, and three or four pints of Miner's Arms guest ale of the week, which is called Rough Ride... I kid not, it's an actual real beer from Cameron's brewery not a figleaf of my sick imagination. And it was four. Very nearly could have become n to the x. Thank you everyone, and goodnight. PS some photos tomorrow.

What a fantastic day!
My highlights Really nice to see Mike, Paul, Graham and Hodgy again Really nice to meet new faces today. Dave and Jean Hodgy picking a cracking route today especially 'that footpath'. Theres loads of other parts I could mention but I think this was the highlight Testing my rear mudhugger through very very wet and at times muddy tracks saved my rear from all that moisture. Dry backside for a change. Think I'm converted Gaz clearing more climbs than me. Grrr.... Making friends with some donkeys Mikes new VW Golf Unwanted chocolate Apples - White chocolate and sticky ones The phrase 'jump'
As normal usual group fun banter and company rounded off this cracking day. Considering the conditions, everyone did the business today well done to all! Roll on the next ride
Thanks for having me people
Here are the pictures... Enjoy... Edit: can't attach pictures so will have to upload and link tomorrow grrr...

Glad every body survived unscathed this time.
Any news on the famous cobbled climb or is that a challenge still waiting to be met?
Where abouts was the footpath that has been mentioned, which part of the ride did it link up.

See if this gives you any clues John.. Windemere .. And that's before any alcohol passed my lips ..

John ..we sacrificed the excellent techy rockfest drop down Harrow Slack to the edge of Windemere in favour of the path heading up towards Claife Heights ..passing below the mast in Heald Wood ..to join the bridleway up from Belle Grange ..so at the top of the cobble challenge. Gotta say it was unreal ...more technical than the Harrow Slack drop ..and simply unrideable on short sections ( mainly climbing ) ..but when it pointed down..terrific fun ! Next time ...( next year for me ..3 visits to the same ride is enough !).. Edit : I would also go as far as to say that it's only rideable in this direction ?

"John ..we sacrificed the excellent techy rockfest drop down Harrow Slack"
Is that the one heading out of Hawkshead which started pretty tame then catches you out with a fast down through some choppy jaggedly rocks, g and me barely scrubbed some speed before we realised it was about to get rough at the gate g raised his suspension was all locked out.
Or the very good descent where Nick came a cropper, shame to miss that one as it was fast and long.

The one where Nick came a cropper ..but believe me this one was even better ....and probably longer ! The other one you mention is out of ( spookily ) Outgate ...where we met Don Quixote yesterday ...
