So with the release of the 2017 bikes I think I have decided what I would like for my next bike. (Not saying until the money is in the bank and order made in a couple of months ) At first I was going to get a frame and building it up myself. This would be my ideal choice (pike/debonair with dt swiss m1700 rims and xt kit) but this may take a bit longer as its the most expensive so would be buying bits each month. BUT the 2017 complete builds have great components so now looking at just getting one of these and saving the hassle, a bit of cash and be able to ride it straight away. So my current dilema is what spec to pick. There are 3 to choose from and not a huge amount between them all. Best value is new slx kit with raceface crank on wtb i23 rims/novatec hubs with new fox 34'S/dps shock and an own brand dropper. Add about £230 gets full xt (except brakes, still slx) Add another £350 gets a reverb with crossmax xl rims with a pike/rt3 debonair with Sram kit. 2016 model. Or finally add another £200 and build it myself with dtswiss m1700 rims, pike/rt3 debonair, reverb and xt kit. My feeling is save the cash and get the cheaper option and upgrade bits as they wear. I have never used fox before but I read good things about the new 34's/ dps shock. What your vote

Ive got the new 34's factory with the FIT4 with Float X and it's a great combo no doubt! Can't comment on RS and I wonder if I would notice the difference anyway...I've always been a Shimano guy (even though it hasn't been very good to me lately with a faulty brake and rear mech!?)...I've always like Mavic Crossmax tho...great quality, really easy to setup tubeless and no doubt the best looking out there. However replacement parts are expensive and can take time, if anything is to go wrong!

I was gonna sell my Trek and build a well specced 275 HT, but like you say, looking at the "off the shelf" stuff these days, there's not much in it at curtain price brackets with 11spd and M8000 bits as standard ..
My 2 peneth is:
Pike = legendary .. nothing to add DB RC3 = legendary .. nothing to add
Brakes .. now, I always thought a well set up XT brake is as much braking as anyone would need unless in a DH application, however .. then I bought a bike with SRAMs Guide RS stoppers ... and ok, I made a couple of changes (203mm FT rotor, and Nukeproof sintered pads instead of the shite SRAM pads) but the difference is night and day! .. featherlight modulation, and a lot more stopping power .. (and just for the record, I have the same mods to the XT brakes on the Trek, and the SRAMs are on a different page!)

Pikes are bombproof
Mavic Crossmax also
I run pikes and debonair and crossmax so I'm naturally biased but I also chose to have that spec as well as my bike came with a multitude of options (Strive 2016)

Thanks for your thoughts guys. Gives me plenty to think about. I just have to wait until I get the funds in then make a choice. Right now the 2017 models are full price and the 2016 model is currently at 30% off so might not be available when the money comes in. I will just have to wait and see what's the best deal/available when I have the funds in.
I cannae wait man. I get like a kid waiting for Christmas just thinking about it. I am delighted that my company are giving me a bonus....but telling me at the end Aug then making me wait until Nov for it is cruel.

So the bonus is still quite a few weeks away and my choices are narrowing. The frame only is now sold out as is last year's model so it's looking like the decision has been made for me . Was fancying the frame only option tbh but I will now save a few quid and probably a lot of heartache when buying a complete bike now.

The saga continues. So with funds due quite soon my choices are up in the air. The frame only is sold out, and this year's models have all gone up over €300 each due to exchange rates. Previously the bike was €2500 but I was holding out for a 10% off deal being crc, bringing it to around my budget of €2000 (I would of found the other bit). But now the bike is over €2800 which if I am honest brings quite a few other bikes into play as it is no longer the bargain I thought, and phscologically it is a €3k bike not a €2k bike to me now. Back to the drawing board.
I can see me not doing anything now until Jan if I am honest as due to work over Dec I don't get to ride anyway so I may hold out for the January sales now, but if the right deal/bike comes along I may be tempted.

If you're looking on CRC then join British Cycling and get 10% off including the sales prices.
