just to add , im now also thinking of doing a part of the white peak that im not familiar with.its a ride from hollinsclough and could include a part of the cat and fiddle loop, but theres supposed to be nice rocky droppy stuff around hollinsclough. i'd be following a gpx route so its like im leading myself on a route that i dont know?

The White Peak eh ? From what I've read that's limestone as opposed to the gritstone of the Dark Peak ..pray for a period of dry weather then Glynn cos that stuff is as slippery as a skating rink if even slightly moist ..

iv ridden the white peaks plenty of times neil, just not around hollinclough much. it actually has some good winter routes there, but alot of them have been immensely tamed by our 'friends' (not) derbyshire council. it used to be excellent

It's so annoying to hear that ..they are complete numptys..and must have lost fortunes in terms of the mtb tourist dollar due to this action ..

jack im just looking what route we'll be doing. but if you're still up for it we'll meet in the market place carpark centre of longnor SK1 70NT. 10.00. then drive on to where we'll park up. as i say iv done some of the route but not familiar with other bits so its quite experimental. supposed to be really good round hollinsclough www.youtube.com/results?search_query=hollinsclough+descents

tell you what jack, you didnt miss anything today. i was completely underwhelmed by this route. all the best bits were around hollinsclough, but even they wernt good enough as the boring bits completely outweighed any good bits. too much tarmac, too much climbing for hardly any good rewards. the ride never seemed to get going. iv ridden round here twice now, first time was a completely different route but i came away on both occasions thinking " nice scenery, crap mountain biking".

Glad i didn't book a day off for it then?!?!...you live and learn...should have come with me on sunday to do Cutgate (probably for the last time this year)...always an awesome ride that one...also did the rest you had in mind last time before we turned back to meet John...it was a nice little bit with a small descent but more techy climbing after the gate and along the stone walls on your right. The descent on the way back from the middle point (where the pile of rocks is where we saw that skull) all the way down to the slippery stones is just awesome.
Im doing wharncliffe with Nick tomorrow night if you fancy?!

Yeah...ish...because Mick is not in shape we skipped Screaming Mile and Suicide Break (plus i did it 3 days before) and went straight from Fairholmes on the hunt for the "star" bridge...we spent quite a long time on the road going around the dam...im sure there must be a quicker way and i don't remember spending so much time on it last time...but maybe we were just chatting. Its very enjoyable no doubt, with a bit of everything. There were more boggy patches than last time and Mick went OTB on the middle boggy patch but managed to save himself from a complete dive in the mud.
