Meeting Ian , Russell & hopefully Graham ..with " invites " out to anyone else who wishes to join in the fun ... Part of tomorrow night will be having a look at an Autumn / Winter project on Twist & Shout ( part of the Deadwater trail) which is going to be undertaken with Russell,Ian,Graham & myself...on weekday(s)..starting soon . It's aim is to give a better finish to the section than currently exists at the bottom end by diverting it to make it flow faster ( at the moment a lot of built up speed has to be scrubbed off) . It's had the go-ahead from the F.C....the top surface stone is in place ..just waiting for the sandstone base..before getting started soon .. I'm looking forward to getting involved again ..as long as my " improved " knee holds up .. So ..does anyone else want to join us ( for the ride) ? Edit : whoops ..meeting earlier than usual ..5.30pm at The Bike Place ..

Leave it as it is. S'my tuppence worth.
If you must alter it can you please use something to bind the top surface together? The repairs to skydive etc are a skating rink due to not having any fine material between the stones to stop them moving.
In other news I can't make the ride.

Can't say that I'd noticed that myself Andy ..and I've ridden all of the trails fairly frequently this year...and harder since I got the new bike ...there is always a " bedding in " period as you know ..but I was on Skydive & Deadwater only a couple of weeks ago and didn't encounter any problems ..

I've ridden it a couple of times this year (the last a few weeks ago) and i could feel my bike squirming around in the corners. I don't feel it anywhere else but on the resurfaced sections. This is in no way a rant about Ian, Russell, etc who have done a sterling job as it's the fault of the FC for providing crappy materials.

Andy ...I didn't think for one second that you were having a rant at those two gents .. I'm only saying that personally I haven't encountered those problems ..I will ask them if they have had any other comments like this .. I know that when the work was initially done it was very loose but that's before it was whacked ..since the 101 I thought things had improved a lot due to a couple of hundred riders going over it ..

Brilliant ride tonight ..Cheers Ian & Russell. Just to say that you can't please all of the people all of the time ..& Russell is fully aware ...and is sensitive to suggestions by Mr.Mc.where ruining the trail may ensue ..( in his capacity as an F.C Ranger ) ..and is doing his best to make sure his advice is taken on board . I'm still of the opinion that the maintenance that has been undertaken has improved the trails no end ..being diplomatic you probably may not be surprised to learn that where the top surface has been ladled on thick isn't the section where our boys have been involved. The new section which I have seen flagged tonight will improve the flow and is an alternative (so you have a choice still) to the Woodstock section where your speed is going to be maintained and not scrubbed by a needless 45degree left uphill..as is the case at the moment...Russell is fiercely protective of the section leading into this and will suggest that it is not tampered with in any way .hope that clears things up a little Andy ? Anyway ..tonight's pics..starting with the new love of Russell's life ..and she's a beaut! Looking into the Scottish Border country ..prior to the lights going on Russell & Ian Into The Valley ( Kielder Village below) The fire road up to the Kielder Observatory ..nice night for it ! Finished off with a pint of Nels Best in the Hollybush ..

Ah, right. When you said at the bottom of I thought you meant after woodstock. So a better bypass route in effect? Good idea. ..being diplomatic you probably may not be surprised to learn that where the top surface has been ladled on thick isn't the section where our boys have been involved... Surprise = 0.

Went on a proper night ride yesterday at the Peaks...we started at 8pm at Ladybower, up Screaming Mile, down Suicide Brake, up to the ridge along the cheeky at Derwent and bombed it down for at least 10 min up to the back of the pub...it's nice but there is no doubt that it is more dangerous (specially with only one light after running out of battery), and you don't go as fast! At least it wasn't bad weather!?

Yes it's definitely different ..and we used to do some huge rides . These days it's maximum 3hours and finish in the pub .. Funnily enough while mountain biking in the peaks 3 or 4 years ago and staying at the Ladybower Inn we got speaking to a few lads who had just come in from a night ride..they said then that there was a strong night ride "scene" around those parts ..good to see its still going strong .

Good stuff G. Even the less technical trails seem to come alive in the dark. its a good idea to conserve your battery. turn it down to a lower setting when you're on the easier parts of the ride. i also take spare batteries, but never needed them yet

My fault for not charging the batteries from new.
