Please don't read or view this post if you firmly believe that as the law stands in England at the moment we should on no account ride on paths...as 80% of this ride was . You see I don't think it's right ...never have ..and unless it's the landowner who is asking me to leave will defend my right to be there ..although to be fair the majority of ramblers that I come across these days are totally fine.. This set of hills are some of the bonniest in the entire country nevermind just Northumberland..and to be honest because they are a ramblers honeypot I have never ridden them in 20 years of mountain biking ( and they are only 40mins away) as I had heard that there would be major conflict with walking groups ....until today ! It became apparent however that if we were hoping to do this " under the radar " those hopes evaporated when we hit the car park to find a large international orienteering event on ! You know what though the organisers & competitors were as good as gold ..very chatty and friendly as were the 2 or 3 sets of walkers we met while riding . Anyway we had Colin with us ( a Scotsman)..and their right to roam is transferable ( cough cough !) . It was an absolutely superb ride..with a bit of everything in it and goes right to the top of my list in terms of rides in my home county. Many thanks to my partners in crime ..Paul, Graham ..Barry ( don't leave it so long until you join us again) and especially Colin for his knowledge of the area ..that rocked ! The pictures will have to follow as I am being dragged 20 miles down the road to do a food shop at our nearest ( big ) supermarket ..they are worth waiting for though ( lol)

Wow, looks great.
Footpaths are wasted on walkers!

Here is what annoys me about this board .. Right next to it is a sign saying ( featured earlier ) Public Footpath ..no cyclists.... It then goes on to explain the fragile environment and how flagstones have been airlifted in to protect it ..at God knows what cost ...be careful where you tread and stick to the paths ...while an international orienteering event had carte blanche to take the shortest route possible not sticking to the paths at all ..and who are the people who caused the erosion in the first place ?...well it wasn't mountain bikers ..but hell just point the spotlight towards us..as being the problem ..what a bunch of fucking hypocrites ...it even says at the beginning of the blurb that we are following in the footsteps of bronze age man and drovers who used these old ROADS... Think I will start a petition to have them reclassified ... On a lighter note ..it also tells the tale of the Duergars ..an aggressive race of dwarves ..and I think I spotted one hiding in the heather..haha!

I proposed to the Mrs on those cliffs. Nearly fell over the edge getting down on one knee.
Great place to ride too.
