after 8 years iv finally ordered a new dropper post to replace my gravity dropper classic. 8 years of very reliable service i'll be sorry to remove it from the bike. i would have ideally liked another one, like for like, but with a price tag of £240 and the possibility of having to pay import tax as well, iv decided to go for a GIANT switch SL at £170. i honestly hope the giant lasts at least half the life of the GD.

Wow 8 years is good going for a part that is notoriously temperamental. I didn't even know what a dropper post was 8 years ago.

Gravity dropper posts are made in USA, all mechanical magnet/ lever operated, spring return. Very reliable

Apparently the 9point8 is the reliable one but at a high cost! It's good to see loads of alternatives coming out...the Shimano one and the BikeYoke one (with a quick bleed self-service button)...the most important thing at the moment with dropper posts is how good their warranty and customer service is...lol
The only reason why the GD post hasn't sold by the millions is because it has a face only a mother can love...and no fancy logo/brand on it no doubt!

seat tube is 31.6 so anything up to that size (with the correct shims) the mega doesnt have internal routing option so i dont fancy drilling it. i'll start my search from scratch found another SL and £40 cheaper.............mmmm im already suspicious, but its ordered

Thomson does 31.6 and 30.9 but expensive of course! However, you pay what you get for!?

Lol... Mine had a problem which is very easy to resolve...a bit of loctite on the collar thread...could have done it myself...however it was sent back to Thomson who sorted it out straight away. I do think it was probably due to spraying Fork Juice on the stanchion everytime after a ride. However, if I'm honest, I just wanted to get the new Fox and took that opportunity. But if you ask me my honest opinion, the Thomson is better than the Fox.

contact switch SL arrived today and is fitted. looks and feels good, much better than the first version i bought which was troublesome from the start for a few reasons. the only servicing that can be done is a clean and wipe of the top wiper seal. dont know if thats going to be a good thing or not. i had a strange issue with the first one a few years ago. i was constantly adjusting and readjusting the cable at the actuator end. i then changed the headset as it was knackered, and with the new headset in, i could hear air being forced in and out when the seatpost was actuatored.it was coming from the headset as tho there was displaced air in the bike frame needing to go somewhere and the headset was the only way. i removed a bottle cage screw that wasnt serving any purpose and it cured the symptom and the dropper started working much better.the air had somewhere to be drawn in and out............odd one that!
