So having posted up a Lakeland ride for this Saturday..researching it the best I could on Geograph ( pics ) ..I thought I had better go and see it in the flesh before letting it loose ..not really knowing if it would work out !
Having Colin & Russell joining me was a real bonus and we agreed on an early start.
Picking Russell up at 7.30 gave us enough time to get started at 9.30 ...that is until stopping for a " comfort " break at Southwaite services I met Colin coming out as I was going in and we all decided that a bacon sarnies and a coffee seemed like a good idea!
Refuelled and refreshing Colin with directions for the RV point we set off again ..turning off for Mungrisdale we thought we would wait in view so as to confirm the turnoff for Colin .
30 minutes later with no sign of him and no response from his phone we headed down to Mosedale just in case we had missed him going past ..we hadn't but turning back again his car came into view ..
It transpired that due to a large artic.blocking his view ..he missed the turnoff the M6 and had to go down to Shap before he could turn around again !
Setting off and getting as far as Mungrisdale it suddenly hit me that I had left my mobile phone in the car and had to go back for it as it was carrying the only map we had via Viewranger.
Take 2 and heading back in the car to Mungrisdale we then set off again ...only for me to realise that yet again I had still left my mobile in the car..ffs!!
Going back to retrieve it once more ..and getting back to where the lads were it was now 11.00am and we had done less than a mile of off road ..so much for an early start !!!.
So to the ride ..amazing ..but on this loop you will have to be prepared for at least 3/4 to 1 hour of pushing the bike ( in total) ..in 2 separate places..
Conditions today didn't help with a really strong wind and I'm sure more of the trail could be ridden without the threat of being blown off the side of the mountain ..
This was the first half of the ride ..there are two loops ..the other loop I'm familiar with 50% of so that wasn't ridden.
Here are some pics to whet your appetite ...a couple of river crossings
That's all folks !
See you Saturday ?
