So what do people use when their "get up and go" has got up and gone, muscles are getting tired, cardio is weakening ?
Whip out a sarny and a narna, a carb gel, a handful of jelly beans (then sugar crash 15mins later ) .. what helps you on the trail/climbs ?
Depending on the length/severity of the ride, mine is usually a flapjack or two, and a sarny if out on a day trip ride, and just water ... tho I am considering some SIS Gels to try, or maybe summut in the water/separate bottle perhaps ??

I usually have a torq energy bar ( gives good energy and doesn't taste like sh1t) prior to riding or mid ride depending on my last meal time. I've also found having a protein milkshake post ride has stopped the tired muscle effect. (I use whey protein from myprotein.com)

Chia seed trail mix ..yummy, healthy and with the same boost as a gel.

For me it's a TREK bar and loadsa wine gums with a hydration tab in my water. But most rides are under 2hrs. If it's longer then I throw an extra bar or a banana in (and more wine gums). The magic ingredient for me is....wine gums. Love em.

The trick is to eat little and often...doesn't really matter what TBH...it's all calories to burn so you don't lose energy...and water in order not to cramp! But my favourite things are, SIS products, hydro tablet on the bladder, gel at the start, and Clif bars during...then the usual banana, sandwich and sometimes Soreen banana loaf. After ride protein and Glutamine shake when it has been a tough ride!

Depends on the length of the ride. For anything 1-2 hours, porridge before and just water during followed by protein afterwards. For longer than that, a gel or an energy bar during and maybe a tablet or two in the bladder. I don't get on with the SiS gels - they have a frothy consistency that makes me gag. The High Five "sticky" ones work for me.
I'd love to make my own flapjack or similar bars, but I"m a lazy sod so that's never going to happen.
Whatever the ride, always plenty of water. I'd rather stop for a wee than get cramp...

The magic ingredient for me is....wine gums. Love em. After a quick read of this post I thought Andy liked trek bars and loads of wine on a bike ride. I got really excited thinking this maybe a good idea and all sorts of thoughts like a bottle of sauvignon blanc in the camel bak (don't want the bladder stained with the red stuff) popped into my head. Imagine my disappointment when I realised it was wine gums😧. Oh well looks like I'll have to stick to cliff bars and flap jack. I really like the coffee flavour ones in holand and barretts

Maltloaf seems to do the trick for me. Ready salted crisps and a lucoZade.
