Good luck. I've gone the other way and am still trying to master flat pedal riding - couple of nasty - shit yer pants - feet off the pedals moments yesterday at Degla that had me wishing I was clipped in again.

Put pedals on loosest setting.. remember to unclip a foot BEFORE you stop. At some point you will forget to unclip and just fall on your face.. this usually happens with a crowd of people watching or a trail centre car park with a bunch of pros sat around eating sandwiches.

Badass....I use Time Atac pedals ...first time I tried them was on a Lakeland ride ...and the bike shoes and everything else nearly ended up in the Lake ! That was about 12 years ago...I wouldn't have anything else now though. You will forget...where it caught me out most was on techy climbs ... but worth persevering with ! Good luck ! Could you not wait for Santa then... Or is this an early Christmas present !!!

I had them on my road bike and was ok. Would never try off road lol. Seen my mates fail a few times now they back to flats. Some times when you need a quick dab your fucked that why I will never use them.

I use to ride with em years ago but only really pottered around then. TRIED em once last year when I bought some shoes and pedals off "another forum" the shoes were too small and I didn't angle the cleats right so it pissed my ankles off.
Make sure you see how your feet sit on your flat pedals, ie.toes pointing in or out or dead straight and try replicate that with your clips by altering cleats. I just found that having my feet permenantly fixed in an unnatural (to me) position caused my feet to be uncomfortable. I'm sure I could have sorted it if the shoes had fit but I just took em off and forgot about it. I'll try em again myself soo too if I get my hands on a cheap pair of size 11s.

This is the reason why i have turned to clip-less mate , on multi humps going at speed my feet leift off the pedals on flats i dont like the feeling .. dont mind getting a little air but with only your hands left on the handlebars while feet and arse in the air is off putting . the SPD on the trails will climb better but not looking forward to the proper steep rocky stuck and i come to a stand still on a carbon fibre bike . will have to practice some bail out techniques had a few over the sides on my scott last week stopping to change music on my phone and check strava ..woops forgot i was clipped in and went side ways onto my elbow .

i always said wouldnt but tbh im not the worlds best climber and anything that may help is great. tbh trail centres are usualy piece of pish arent they. not alot technical unless you get some black xc and most of that is graded ott. ill give them ago but keep my saints flats in the boot incase i guess. at the end of the day i spose getting out of them quickly is just a case of technique isnt it??
also looking at swapping out my 26/36 chainset for an slx 28/40 on offer atm for added top speed.

Ae forest is a bastard for technical , you end up with vibration white finger after some of the technical downs. i had enough of the up up up up up but realized my fitness wasn't much good after being off the bike for 8 weeks . to much ups and not enough downs . but the downs that are there is very good . now my 29er will eat them alive ...C'mon badass show me how badass you am ... I will arrange a forum ride in around feb march and we camp out and tell ghosts stories !!! (if there is no snow on the ground that is ) will do glentress and inners .

done nearly all the stanes mate. that one inc but would be up for that mate. love scotland. best trail centres anywhere imo. if im at ae prefer the dh bike there but done it xc with doogs and a few lads a few years ago. the whole reason for going back to hardtail is just to make it a bit harder when doing the techy stuff as a bouncer tended to make it to easy if that makes sense. you felt you could do anything as the bike would do it for you if you were lacking but on the ht i feel its more me than the bike. hope this makes sense.
only stanes i havent done are newcastleton and drumlanrig and glentrool if any of them come into that category.

Newcastleton is ok as they have made it longer now as it was short . not a lot of technical but still ok you must have thighs like the friggin hulk .

yep, wicked, just a shame that the trail itself is quite short. alays meant to go of piste with davey but never came off. another wicked trail is in wales. brechfar black. absoloutely wicked with breathtaking scenary and mint sweeping single track. masive berms to.

Descender bender at mabie .....Awsome piece of trail. :-) Awesome . i love it ..i loved it that much on my first go i rode up it , nobody was going to come down as it was getting on a bit and the trail was dead . i was fooked when i got to the top . anyone manage to actually pedal all the way to the top of the scorpion tail ? i always come short near the top and the bike just stops dead . SPD's and a 29er might help me get up it .

Not sure what bit scorpion trail is but I rode all way round without stopping or pushing. It was when we had that really hot weather in July aswell. I swear it was like cycling through the mountains in Cyprus or other similar red hot countries, not Scotland ;-)

well just had my shoes and pedals and after a bit of looking and wondering what the feck to do got them fitted, fitted the cleats to the shoes and tried them out and gotta say just from pedaling up and doon the street can tell they will help on mile munchers. felt realy secure. managed to clip in and out ok first time with them set on the slackets setting as recomended so i think ill like them. report to follow.
i know exactly what you mean now about getting the cleats right as fitted dead straight first time and feet felt completely wrong. ill play with angling them and sliding them forward and back untill i get it right. i reckon ill take an alan key out first few rides to fine tune them. i tend to ride with my feet slightly angled by the looks of the cleats not being right.
