Looking into buying a on-one wippet. I mainly ride xc so its perfect for that but how much abuse can carbon frames take that's designed for xc. Is all carbon the same strength?? Is it only the frame geometry that stops it from taking a hammering. Would it be stupid of me to take it around the peaks or around trail centers and push the bike out of its built purposes. Apologize for my daft questions but i need help in more ways then one.

Plastic bikes will, eventually, melt in the summer or snap in the cold. FACT. End thread now, please.

I make parts for fighter planes out of carbon .I'm sure if it can stand up to those forces , it can handle anything we can do to it

I think carbon fibre is like anything else.. The more you pay, the better it is!
I don't for 1 minute imagine that my 456 is made with the same carbon fibre as fighter jet parts or F1 cars.
If you buy cheap, you buy twice in my opinion.
Personally, I'd steer well clear of cheap Chinese carbon fibre although, some folk swear by it!

I had a Carbon sole in my Football Boots. Its obviously not going to be to the same spec as what the bikes are made out of.
Saying that, the On One or even Santa Cruz isn't going to be made out of Aircraft grade Carbon Fibre like what my dad uses to build Aircraft parts. Theres many factors affecting the strength of Carbon, and at £300 for a frame, its obviously not going to be made out of the strongest carbon. However, a well known brand like On One will do their R&D and they're obviously not going to sell the bike if its not strong enough for general riding and messing about on... Carbon Frames are generally alot stronger than Aluminium, its just carbon suffers alot more on impact hits than aluminium, so if you crash it badly into a rock / tree, the lay up of the carbon can be damaged, where as aluminium will dent... Like the Santa Cruz video shows, Carbon is stronger in force tests tho!
If i had the money, i'd run a Carbon Frame. I'd have no issues trusting one from a well reputable brand. Saying that, the Chinese frames are probably fine too, as creating a Carbon frame isnt the easiest of things to do, so they will have a certain degree of skill and testing put towards it... However, if it were me, i'd keep to a well known big brand!
