I don't know about the XT's but my cheapo deore 615's work perfectly well on the even cheaper Tektro Draco discs that came on my first MTB.

I don't see why you can't mix and match callipers and discs. I've got a set of Hope X2's with Shimano discs and they work fine!

As long as the adapters you use are matched to the disc diam it doesn't matter whose discs they are , what's wrong with the avids I use rsl's on the Lava Dome with a 203/180 setup (and have for 3 years) and they are well powerful , more so than the hopes on the soul.?

Disks will be fine, I have the same type on my bike and they help to stop my fat arse without problem.

i wouldnt buy the xts when the slx are such a good buy atm. £89.99 a set and just as good. i think only real diff is the reach adjust. the slx look a real bargain also on merlin.

yeh thanks guys for advice.....the avids perform well to be fair and not had a problem with them but im wanting to tidy up the fading parts and wanting to try the shimano as the reviews are normally exceptional across the board , i thought these xt's were cheap clearly i have not looked around very well , i never considered the slx set so ill look into them as well and at 90 quid there a steal

I have the SLX as well as the avid disks as I said before they stop my fat arse very well. Just make sure you bed them in well. Had mine for about a year and still on the first set of pads!
