What's the advantage to a good solid rotor over a skinny gram-weenie one?

Less prone to bending or buckling, less chance of scalloping around the holes, last a bit longer, a bit Bigger contact patch do a bit More power, That's about it.
Floating rotors can offer the best of both worlds from my experience.

I like them light but they don't see to hold as much stopping force.

I like them light but they don't see to hold as much stopping force. floating rotors dissipate heat more quickly, that should be a selling point for a speed demon like yourself

im after a set of floating rotors for the dh bike. like said dissipate the heat and dont suffer brake fade with them. im going to fit 203 but in my experience for xc 160/185 is more than enough.
