got this new job starting in 2 weeks and its about 7 miles each way. considdering commuting by bike as with being lates it will eat into my biking time. seen a few cx bikes i like but wondering if id notice a massive difference in commute time by using a road bike or cx bike over the mtb.
seen the boardman cx bikes 2014 for around £300. look ok and cheap.

Personally i travel at an average of 5 to 8kph faster on my road bike than my mtb (nobby nic tyres) so i would defo get a road or cx bike for the commute. I ocasionally do a 8 mile commute and you definitely will find it easier with a skinny road tyre IMO. Also thinner handle bars so easier to overtake cars etc.

I travel 6.5 miles on a 29er with 2.35 tyres on... Just to get those legs working harder..

:-/could do it on my hardtail but reckon a cx bike might be a laugh off road to if i went the canal route or good on road with that option. as ill be doing a couple of 1-10 a week i thought this would be my only riding some days.

I did this to my other bike, speed is mad an yes thats a full slick on the back. needs a bigger ring on the front but oh my its fast! Re the CX bikes some guys round here tried riding up sandy lane, guess what thats made of! they all fell off then I tore up the hill past them enjoying the fact I wasnt trying to get sand out of my lycra shorts

i guess a spare set of wheels with slick tyres on would be cheaper than a new bike tbh. my hardtail weighs in at around 28lbs so not mega heavy.
