I decided to take advantage of my day off today, instead of the normal to GT I decided to head out for an XC adventure up the Pentland hills. At the start I was all fit and raring to go but after being blasted by strong winds, taking the odd wrong turn having the odd hike a bike and various other steep climbs I cam honestly say I was bolloxed come the end, still after all that I still had a good time    Im heading all the way up through the valley, hike a bike is on the card in the steep parts  At the top (well as far as I was going)  Last pic, couldnt be arsed taking the phone out the bag any more lol  Check out the climb at 14miles  That was that valley I was talking about  Half way round I was missing the norm in GT and Inners lol. |

I recognised some of those fences...err I mean locations from the times I have been up there .
Did you do the drop down the side of Black Hill towards the Threipmuir Resevoir....first time I did it I thought it was fantastic then went back a couple of years later ( 2012 ) and couldn't believe the amount of erosion .. it was still good though .
Great place to ride and very much like the Cheviots

Great place to ride and very much like the Cheviots Glad you had a good day Not today I, I totally bypassed Black hill deciding to go further out than usual, the furthest out I went was Nine Mile Burn, it's normally a good decent into Nine Mile Burn but I somehow took a wrong turn and ended up in no mans land. The climb back up from Silverburn to the top of Kirk Road was brutal but again it was a good decent back down to Loganlee Reservoir (thats about the closest I got to Black Hill) 2012 was a really wet year up here, the weather we had was terrible, a lot of the usual routes were destroyed, It's only been this last year where they have started to dry out. It's great to have them on my doorstep, I just don't use them enough |

I need to do some more rides outside of trail centres. Some look fun. Just explore the Chase Gaz - even if you don't know all the cheekies, you can find them easy enough. Donkey bores me a bit now, but the cheekies keep changing! |

Think I know where you went wrong ...you should have veered off to the right for a grassy drop to Nine Mile Burn ..did you carry on down a double track ?
Think I did that ride with Ian Bell from The Bike Place Kielder the first time we rode up there .
I also remember thinking that the climb then drop down to the resevoir would give a much better drop the other way .. Although the climb would then be little more than a push .. Great route though if it's the one I'm thinking it is

Sounds like it is the one you are thinking off. I didnt carry on down the double track, I took the right over the fence but some how veered off the track.
