While out walking the dogs in local forest met a guy speeding uphill towards me Mature gentleman with bike the likes of I have never see Very light looking no suspension frame, massive battery pack on frame and very large extra battery on panier at back Could hardly lift the bike off the ground BUT he had already biked 18 mls to where I met him and reckoned another 30 or so miles once home With his battery packs said they would last 90-100mls Explained that when he went at 12mls/hr or more battery switched off to save power - yes I know electric mtbs are available but with this range? Was about to suggest going off forest road when thought - if he hits a deep bog him and his tank might disappear forever! Asked him what make his bike was - China with a contribution of back wheel with motor from Check Republic via eBay Obviously no use for off road trails or is it - probably only would be of use on semi dry hard surface and no technical bits Anyhow point of all this is that I am pretty sure that at my age have bought my last mountain bike maybe I will get something like this next rather than pack it in or even worse become a roadie - think of the trail centres and natural trails where you could follow a group using forest, farm roads and tracks to complete the ride and meet up at points with mates - sounds good!

Colin....full suspension electric mountain bikes are out there and can go anywhere ..apart from rides with a known hike a bike section as they are extremely heavy to lift! You should go to The Big Bike Weekend on the 18 / 19th October at Kielder ..book a test ride on the Haibike full sus. It's amazing! Personally I would wait a few years yet to see if the technology out there can bring the weight of the battery pack down and also increase the battery life.. But I'm a confined fan and will get one when I get a bit older !!!
