As the title suggests; been looking for a change from my Zesty for a while, especially since I've come to conclude it was a size too large for me. So I bought a couple of bikes I fancied on the second hand market and put them through their paces today in a bike-off! Went to Carron Valley which was great for the purpose as you can do a loop in half an hour or so then back to the car park to change bikes. Anyway the two bikes I was deciding between were the following: Bike 1: Cube Stereo HPC Race 160 Carbon 650b Bike 2: Yeti 575 150mm Aluminium So, anyone hazard a guess as to which one I've chosen to keep?......

Ha, won't keep you hanging too long... I went for the Yeti!! To be honest I really wasn't expecting to at all. Went there today to basically rubber-stamp the Cube as everything was pointing towards it: better spec, carbon frame, bigger wheels etc etc. But after a couple of hours I realised I was just having more fun on the Yeti. It was the one that had be grinning more at the end of the downhills, not sure why. The Cube was indeed a lovely bike, oozes quality, but I had one main problem with it - the suspension, particularly the rear. No matter what air pressure or setting, I just felt the back end was too soft and wallowey compared to the Yeti which was far punchier. (Wasn't mad keen on the CTD fork either) I'm beginning to think I may just have a preference for the rear linkage design that the Yeti has as opposed to the design on the Cube as I've felt this on other bikes too. I have to say I did quite like the 650b wheels on the Cube, particularly for rolling through berms and sweeping turns etc. And the frame on the Cube is lovely too. So there we go, the Yeti it is for the forseeable Just need to change that 36t ring for something a bit smaller.

I hated my mondraker due to the linkage/shock position Was totally different to my TR450 which is almost like a single pivot really. So i can see exactly where you're coming from mate!

Cheers guys. Looking forward to getting out and about on it. I have to say I'd really recommend this as a way of choosing a bike if at all feasible.
But honestly, running two bikes back-to-back really was an eye-opener, will be doing it from now on when changing bike I reckon.
EDIT: Not sure what happened there, half of what I typed didn't appear. Yeah, had typed that it's only feasible cause my work is seasonal so I have to stockpile funds to see me through a couple of months, so have it available temporarily and what better way to utilise it than a bike-off! Not some loaded flash bugger I promise

I wouldn't say the Cube was as ugly as a 5..... but I have never got on with the looks of the upright rear shock, it's put me off a lot of bikes. In line all day long for me....
