From Cannock, Afan is about 160 miles (3hrs) away.
What are the alternatives within that distance from Cannock?
Looking for cross-country/trail centre riding rather than DH and somewhere you could spend a whole day.

I really enjoyed Nant y Arian. The long xc route was proper in the sticks, it felt like a real adventure.

Cwmcarn is a brilliant set of trails, I've done the Twrch trail twice now, it has some excellent technical climbing sections which once you reach the top has some brilliant fun downhill sections (video link at the bottom) after that there's a little more climbing (nothing too serious) for a penultimate downhill section which is fast and tight as hell, final little climb and bam, final decent into the carpark, seriously fast.

It is short which is why I suggested FOD mini dh runs in the morning Cwmcarn in the afternoon, although it would prob be better to do Cwmcarn in the morning then FoD till your to tired, they offer uplift as well at £2 a go so for a tenner you can get a good few runs in

It does sound good, two places in one day.. Think it's best left for another occasion though. Definitely keeping this in mind Cheers

Easy done chief, without crazy speeds. Did Glasgow in 4 hours regularly. It's only just across the border. Mabie is only 217 miles. I guess you're right actually..

Whinlatter . Just about in your timeframe . Not massively long but if you do both loops (about 11 miles) then have a brew .Then redo both loops again . Jobs a good un

As another option that is closer, what about Hopton and Eastridge in a day? Eastridge has some very very steep sections and feels a bit more natural, Hopton has a big climb but makes up for it with great decents including downhill runs. No facilities at either mind so take a flask and a cucumber sandwich!

2 hours drive tops upto Lee quarry 2 hours around there and then move onto gisburn the full 8 loop is 1.5 to 2.5 hours dependant on fitness, nip back u for a go down the hope line which is pretty good. Drive home 2.5 hours.
