Took the bike up Brighstone Forest today to ride the off piste trails and test out my new Hero. Running it with a GoPro helmet mount and cheap eBay chesty. Im not disappointed with the results, but im not happy either. I need to do some tinkering with the mounts positions, aswell as looking into the Camera settings. However, for my first video, what can i expect!
Next videos should be better, once i get use to it all! Its annoying how the camera flattens out the trail and makes it look so much slower. The jumps are quite big aswell but they look tincey on the computer! Anyway, onwards and upwards, cant wait to take it out again!

That's a decent first video, mate..
Much prefer the camera mounted on the chesty as opposed to the helmet mount!

Is that vid literally from sticking it on your head a pressing record? I need to set mine up this week, think I'll just charge it, stick it on my helmet and see how it goes, where did you stick your mount?

That's not bad for a first attempt fella. I'm interested to see if you can up the quality a bit?

I think part of that may be down to YouTube nuking the quality. I uploaded a clip straight from the GoPro to YouTube and it didn't look nearly as good as it did before the upload.

Cheers guys Yeah pretty much. Got the helmet vent mount, which goes through the vents and tightens up with buckles which should give a nice sturdy platform. The quick capture works a treat, literally press the button and you're away! I'm going to mess around with the camera settings, might try 1080p next time and see what it is like. I must admit, my computer may have a part to play in the bad quality. I kind of gave up with adjusting the lighting and stuff in the GoPro app as it was quite slow Hopefully i can get the chesty set up better, as i prefer that view to the helmet cam, its just hard stopping it from wobbling around Haha the forest is quite bare! Makes it easier to pick new lines tho!! I may try Vimeo in the future if the quality still isnt great .

Quick capture is a decent feature, going to hopefully use mine for family holidays and scuba diving, if I keep it for mtb only I reckon the novelty will wear off quick

I use mine on 720/60 and always seems ok but quality loss is horrendous when uploaded to you tube. I`m guessing it`s an I.O.W thing jumping off after 5 seconds to do a couple of press ups

You cant really see in the video but the corners are either bermed, or off camber! Its quite a sketchy line, especially with wet slippy roots and leaves!

I think the lower FPS means the video will be abit jumpy Yeah i suppose just got to try everything and see what works best! I cant wait to take mine out on my Kayak, and to the music Festivals i go to next year!

Chesty is best IMO, because you see the bike and the horizon flatter. You now get how the GoPro flattens it. My first vid i pretty much had most the top tube showing Yeah it looks faster aswell imo... I like it as you can see what input the rider is doing and how his body position moves with different sections of the track. Just need to get the angle right and stop the mount rattling about

Next weekend, i will do a run of the trail in each 720, 720 superview, 1080p on the Chesty and then Helmet Cam... That should prove which one works best! Spot Finder may also work in some situations where the forest is dark with light surrounding it idk :/

Just twigged that you are a paddler ...sea? river ..? I packed in in my late teens but had some fantastic times sea kayaking in the very far N.W.of Scotland ...also on stretches of the North Tyne river before they built a bloody big dam and flooded the valley for 9 miles ! Lewisburn on the Lakeside Way used to be a raging torrent as it entered the North Tyne ..now it's just a tranquil little inlet ... Folk would never know!

[quote author=" jgmu97" Yeah i suppose just got to try everything and see what works best! I cant wait to take mine out on my Kayak, and to the music Festivals i go to next year! Yeah i use to go out sea kayaking regularly. Dont think i have been out this year due to other commitments! Will certainly try, now i have the GoPro! I brought a cheap sit in sea kayak a couple of years back for next to nothing. A couple of mods and a few more purchases saw me hitting the local waters. The most exciting place I've paddled is in and around the cliffs at Freshwater Bay, IOW... When the tides right, you can get inside the network of small caves which have been gradually eroded from the big waves that surround that part of the island. Skipping through the rocks and going around the stack is also good fun... Yet to kayak any rivers... That sounds great, would love to have a go in some rougher, more challenging rivers...
