So guys I'm after opinions for next years ride MY Hart says Santa Cruze but my pocket says Orange Alpine 160 or Nukeproof Mega all would have to be second hand as I'm to tight to buy new as I think they all over priced anyway

Having an Orange Five myself, I'd say go with the Alpine 160. I really can't deny the fact I'd love a Santa Cruz though, have you thought maybe about a Yeti/Mondraker/Commencal/etc?

I can vouch for the Mega. Charges down stuff and makes you look better than you are.

I can vouch for the Mega. Charges down stuff and makes you look better than you are. Totally agree with this.. You just point and shoot! The 2014 Mega AM is a beast of a bike but still fairly expensive and the 2015 NP models (in my opinion) look amazing but again, are very expensive. 2014 Mega AM's pop up now n then as real bargains if you don't mind waiting and searching. They seem far better value if you buy frame only too. I'd love a Santa Cruz carbon Bronson but that's a hell of a lot of money for a bike that is said not to be all that good.. Having said that, Munky on here has one and it looks the dogs danglies! I'm not much of an Orange fan but I do like the Alpine 160 but don't think they offer as much value as a NP Mega.. 2012 Mega's are holding their value very well but bargains can be had if you look hard enough..

Pity you don't live nearer...you could have tested the Alpine against anything in the Santa Cruz stable at the Big Bike Weekend at Kielder this coming weekend ..Kona will also be there with their 2015 range. The Hai bike ( electric full sus ..with fox suspension) is also there to test ..and northern downhill have a race on the Sunday. There is a re-opening of part of the Deadwater Trail which has an addition and re- working ..the trail now runs in the opposite direction. Personally ( and I have mentioned this more than once before ) ...the best bike I have ridden ..and I rode it at Glentress and also across moors and mountains is the Santa Cruz 5010 c which having tested it against the Orange 5 . 650b just blew it out of the water .. And to be honest..is not really that much more expensive . I can't afford a new bike at the moment but would rather wait a little longer to be able to buy this bike than settle for second best.

C .... For carbon. They are however making a cheaper carbon version ..so I think the one I rode was called the c .. But will now be known as the Carbon c ..which you can custom build ..but the new " c " comes ready built in two different formats. This is a move by Santa Cruz to move towards more mainstream " affordable " pricing ..which can only be good news! I didn't really know what you were getting at by writing SC 5010 .. Hopefully this will explain things better Edit... Apologies ..I now realise that this would be what you also would personally choose ..I'm a little slow but I got there in the end ..and the extra info doesn't harm !

I've just done a custom Pivot mach 6 build which I am more than happy with as everything on it is what I wanted so I would say push the boat out and build your dream as parts prices are quite good right now.
If you asked my wife see would tell you "its just a bike" and "he's a twat"............

When I'm next out on it I'll get some good shots of it for you but works mad right now so it might take a few days.

Do some research, try and test ride the bikes you like the look of or see if anyone will let you have a go and then get the one you like. Everyone will have an opinion based on their preferences so your best getting the one you like and works for you. If you get the one you like the best then chances are you'll keep it for a bit, in my case that gave me more of an option when looking at cost, knowing I'd get the bike I wanted and felt good meant I would keep it longer so I was able to justify spending more. Thats what I told her anyway!!!!
