Looks a good idea Jim ...of the two although nearly double the price ..I think I would go for the first option as I just would not trust the tyre strap on the second option to hold the bike securely ...and that could eventually deteriorate over time . For security I only ever use my roof mount for other peoples bikes preferring to keep mine inside the vehicle!

I agree I prefer the more expensive, as usual! Think the strap would be fine but the other just seems quicker and easier.
I always have too much stuff or too many people to put the bike in the car, when away in the caravan I have 4 on top and a full car of kids, dogs, kayak, etc etc.

Hmmm .. The reason I mentioned the strap is that the one on my Thule system did just that .( snapped ) . Still enough length on it that it can be used and the clamp being positioned on the frame still holds the bike in place .. But having to rely solely on a strap to hold the rear of the bike in place..I personally wouldn't trust it over a long period ..although I guess you would be able to buy spares . I also think that there would be a lot of movement on the rear of the bike in transit..causing who knows what kind of stress to the bike itself ...the first one just looks so much more secure

Looks hard work, pain trying to hold the bike up and pull them bars up ? Watch the video on their site, they look a piece of piss. It holds itself up while you pull up the back section. Far easier than the thule's
