Some bad news today guys. Those of you that ride in the Peak District will know Stanage Pole. A couple of miles from the Derwent Valley and there are some good climbs up to it. Until recently the decent was a difficult, technical path with boulders and drop offs. However some bright spark decided to put a limestone style smooth path all the way down. This would be a fast mile down a smooth track but for the drainage troughs every 20 or 30 metres which you either slow down for or bunny hop. Today a good friend and real nice guy had an accident, I wanted to warn everyone as we are not talking about a novice here but a rider with over 25 years experience who is a multi-gold medal holder at World Level at a Mountain Bike Event. Whizzing down for another KOM on Strava (he has loads) he mistimed a bunny hop resulting in coming off, get knocked out, breaking 10 bones throughout his body and puncturing a lung. Serious, serious injuries. Just take care out there guys! borrowed from a diffrent site asked the poster if ok to copy thanks pal

this is only one of many. Derbyshire county council are working their way through all of them ,or so it seems. a lot of people are unhappy and its not only mtbers. its a long on going issue. personally I reckon its to do with backhanders and keeping someone in work but then again that's what business is.unfortunately theres seems to be no consultation with the people who use it. the peak district is beautiful for its ruggedness and its being ruined by a group who are supposed to be maintaining it

I love the peaks for the natural trails, Its my favourite riding grounds. All these new paths may be good if you want to hurl down them at speed (Which is fun tbh) But it ruins the techy side of things aswell as the natural feel of the place. I hope your mate heals from this, Just remind him we all suffer for our passion.

Me and will road this was a lovely bit of trail (((( I'm huffing fuming about this ... I can see them doing this to all the trails up there ... I noticed on the bhf ride they had ripped out a fair bit on that fast berm section with lots of drop offs as you head down to the road.. Can't think of the name . Drop down spud ally climb up past the farm.. Zig zag road and you would do a sharp rite back down .. Was very tetchy with drop offs .. Then the last time I rode it was like a 360 had levelled it

What on earth are you pillocks up to ? The "improvements " which you are ploughing on with in the insane belief that you are creating trails for the masses ..are in fact going to cost your county untold tourism revenue ...I and my mountain biking group won't be back anytime soon as in your misguided judgement you are destroying the very thing that we contributed our est £1000.00 per annum in terms of food , accommodation and drinks while we visited the area ..and we are only a small group ...you blithering idiots! Guess we will just have to have another week in Scotland . Listen to your local outdoor groups you bloody senseless desk pilots !!! Sent to the council via e-mail Sent from my iPhone

That's a terrible set of injuries there, poor bugger!
These 4x4 mongs wind me up. All swaggering around when all they are doing is driving a car over a bit of rough ground (and fucking it up in the process). With their Chris Rea CD's blasting out of the expensive audio and the heaters on full whack. To think some walkers say us MTBers ruin the trails!! FFS!
4x4 off roaders....cants!

Don't mind 4x4's and trail bikes ( motorised) ..as long as they stick to what they are legally allowed to travel over ... Now that might sound a bit rich coming from someone who has been known to use footpaths in the countryside ..but to be judged in the same way as these off-roaders would be ludicrous ...it would take a large group of mountain bikers a good number of years to create the type of damage these guys make in just one single trip..so I personally distance myself from them as much as I can . The footpaths that I use are so remote that I rarely see anyone else ..and in a lot of cases need someone using them to keep them "alive" ..

And that is exactly one of the main reasons all the byways and bridleways are slowly being closed and downgraded to footpaths by the Ramblers , they are a very large and vocal group whereas all the other user groups are too bloody self righteous to get together and fight the cause as a coherant group. Before much longer we'll be relegated to trail centres because all unsurfaced rights of way will have been downgraded to footpaths . I ride a mountain bike , drive an offroader and have a number of trials rider and horse rider friends so hear the same comments from all user groups slating each other instead of looking at the real problem . We are doomed

No ..I can't really agree with you there ...there have been a few victories in Northumberland ..mainly due to the efforts of gentleman by the name of Ted Liddle ..who fronts up Tyne Valley MTB..he has been the driving force behind a new long distance mtb trail running from Berwick to Hexham which is currently being way- marked and is due to officially open next Spring..as just one example .. Making friends with your local rights of way officer also has benefits ..an awful lot of these tracks on a map classed as footpaths are in reality bridleways and other legal rights of which we ARE allowed on

Just so you can see how bad the sanitisation is, this was took by me last Sunday at Rushup edge... The natural bedrock has been destroyed then the drop offs filled in with huge stone.
