Roundie ..I'm not "having a go " here ..my previous comment about being too knackered to do both this and Whinlatter were meant to be lighthearted ..but also having done this ride 3times now ...it's not a normal 25 miler ..you will be pushing / riding your bike for the best part of two hours just to get to the top of The Calf . I know from comments on here that Jay is a fit lad ..but I think he is really underestimating this ride .. That makes 2 of us that have underestimated this ride then, 2 hours pushing. Jesus!!! just think of it as the snowdon ride that you didn't do mate ... cant beat a bit of hike n biking part of the fun

No ya soft sod I'm doing the ride on the 2nd with Hodgy and his crew as I am busy at weekends (can only do rides up to about 2pm Fri, Sat and Sun) So I can give you a quick heads up on Thurs night on here as to what to expect (and I am most certainly NOT in the fit category), that's as long as I survive it!

Youll be right, it won't kill you. Might be hard work but just think about the descents

Don't panic Captain Mannering ! Just get into the mindset that you will have to push a good bit of this ..depending on your fitness and you will be fine ! Seriously Roundie ..I AM the worlds worst climber ..but I keep going back for more ..and the bulk of the climb / push comes at the start . I usually curse everything that is holy on the way up ..instantly forgotten once the Bowderdale descent begins ! There is also huge sections of sublime singletrack once you have climbed out of Ravenstonedale on the way back ! Just allow yourself plenty of time..you are out for the day ..and you will love it !

Might have to put spanner in the works for this, currently awaiting parts for the bike the guy who I've ordered them with says they should be here Thursday, if not I'll have to drop out of this.

Sorry to jump in here, but Hodgy has given us instructions to meet in a car park behind the public bogs on the Thursday ride - have a look on that thread? I'd assume that's the best place for you as he has local knowledge. Enjoy lads and say hello to Gaz for me - he's disappeared off the face! Tell him to come back - there's not enough bollocks being spoken on here since he left Edit: Ride is supposed to be 25 miles, 3,000+ ft climbing and 5 hours. This seems to be the postcode the lads are using to meet up...LA10 5AT

Ergaz, and myself are still coming. That postcode looks near enough the same spot as where I planned to start.. So will go with that!..

Adam, I recommend you have a word with Hodgy? There is a section he took us on in the 2nd half of the ride that was a brilliant run (quite long too) through trees, down chutes filled with roots and gullys with baby head sized stones - I'm led to believe it isn't on the route you have? You've got to find it, you and Gaz will love it - be a real shame to suffer the Calf climb and miss out on that reward! possibly my favourite part of the day (though there is plenty of other great single track if you can't find it)
Let us know how you all get on. Plenty of pics and check the weather locally, me, Kirky and Steormy were caught out big time when the rain and wind came at 5pm - it's pretty exposed up there!

Can't make this chaps, due to Whyte distributors being shite. Parts that I ordered over 2 weeks ago still aren't here. Gutted looks like an awesome ride. Have a good one

That's a shame as you would have enjoyed most of it.
Hopefully they may be enough of us that want to give it another go again sometime soon.

This route guide has the return leg as we did it yesterday. The blue track line is a bit too heavy to see the underlying type of way it is on, i.e. the point on the road climb from Ravenstonedale where you turn left onto bridleway... it's on a descending stretch of the road and easy to race past, it does have a fingerboard. www.mtbtrails.info/Trail_Venue.aspx?VenueNumber=180#TrailNumber339direct link to OS route..I made it fullscreen, took a screen grab, made an image file of each half and printed to 2 sheets A4 (I don't have access to A3 printing). I'll happily give these out as files but am not sure whats the best method. Photobucket, Dropbox etc.. I don't have Facebook or Instagram accounts. Suggest a way that would work for you if interested.

Aaah, that's bollocks. Right then, we need a rescue ride for Roundie, Gaz and Adam.
So it has to be before the weather turns and it has to be a weekend. I am willing to break my weekend curfew and risk dying again to get these good men up and down the Calf.
Suggestions for a date please?
