Yes you had better believe .. It's fucking awesome. I would say though that it's 300% better in firm dry conditions and that the slog / push up to the Calf will almost break your spirit ...but the 7km downhill into Bowderdale (not Bowerdale) is on of the best technical slivers of singletrack you will ever undertake in this country...and there is some more superb singletrack on the return leg back to Sedbergh ...fitness wise though you will need to be right on top of your game ..and even then you will be well and truly fucked when you get back to the car !

Right now I'm nowhere near ready for this ride ( if I ever have been!) but I will keep an eye on this thread / how my fitness progresses in the coming weeks and will make a decision nearer the time ! When are you thinking of going ?

Just to throw this into equation ..this ride takes longer than you might expect ..at least 6 hrs ..so a really early start is recommended / take lights as you may need them ..it will be dark by 4.00 pm ..just saying !

It's the climbing / pushing up to the top of The Calf that takes the time ..unless you are an elite level rider ( which I'm nowhere near ) it will take 2-21/2 hours to get there and that is in terms of distance probably on a quarter of the way around the drop down through Bowderdale is technical and fast in dry conditions ...more of a challenge if it's wet ..so you are probably looking at 3-31/2 hours to reach the half way point and there is still a lot of technical up and down stuff on the return leg ..I am not trying to put a damper on things ...just being realistic ..factor in stops and the risk of mechanicals ...and it's not the ideal time of year to do it ...early spring / summer would seriously increase your enjoyment of this ride ...

I would move to join the midlands massive and any others on this. I drove through that area yesterday with the family and couldn't stop looking at those wonderful Hills.
I week or two of cold dry frosty weather would be good before venturing up there.

Soz Adam, I am just one big vagina, tbh I've got 2 weeks off at the start of December, but listening to Hodgy it does sound like we need at least dry weather. I'm up for it in mid-week but then my Tail End Charlie riding buddy can't make it, the lights are a very good idea too - we started too late in the morning at Afan and nearly got caught out with fast failing light. Sounds epic and tough but I'm willing for a shilling.

I'm almost loathe to post this ..as it looks as though I am trying to put you off..however I just feel that if if I don't give you all the facts ..then I would be letting you down . The key thing that you should take out of my previous posts is that I said it would take at LEAST 6 Hours..the reality is that with breaks it will be closer to 8 hours . The key at this time of year is to maximise on the amount of daylight hours ..so bearing in mind that it will be dark at 4.00pm (if not earlier) ..you really need an early start..even if you were underway at 9.00am ( likely ?) the last hour of the ride would be in darkness ..factor in that 9 km of the last 12 km is on narrow techy singletrack with only the last 3km back into Sedbergh on Tarmac ..do you really want to tackle this sort of terrain which you haven't ridden before with lights ? If the answer to that is yes ..then good luck and I wish you well and hope that you enjoy it ! Having done the homework ..I can now rule myself out of this ..but should you change your minds and want to do this next year once the clocks have turned again in our favour ..then I would love to join you!
