I go away most weekends in my van and often struggle finding good places to ride nearby. Which websites do people use to find routes? Ideally I'd like to click a point on a map and be shown routes around that point, are there any about like this ? Just signed up to Strava which nearly does this but it only show segment, can I get it to show me full routes? cheers Gaz

Strava explore can be a bit hit and miss with finding less common segments. The best way to use it when looking for a bigger loop/route is to click on a few segments in an area and look for common names in the top ten. Then click on their time/ride on the leader board and u can view their entire ride when they got that time. Another and probably better way us to look for local bike shops to the area.they usually know the best local trails.

I also think I need to be a premium member to actually download a route from Strava!

Find the location you're going to, and type it in and 'MTB' after, for example 'Bristol MTB' will chuck up searches with Ashton Court and Leigh Woods, including all the off piste downhill sections there as well.
I think PinkBike's Trail Forks application is something similar to what you've described, but it's only just really been released and is still in very early infancy.

Gary try ridewithgps.com great detailed maps which can be easily edited and downloaded, enter the nearest town and a distance around ghost you may travel to. They have a lot of routes around the lakes which I haven't seen in the mags.

Thanks for the suggestions, next weekend should be easy as I'm staying at Castlerigg farm campsite so planning on riding Borrowdale bash on the Saturday with someting a bit shorter for the Sunday but there's plenty to choose from. The links should come in useful from when we're having a 'none biking weekend away' which normally means I'm not allowed to camp in the middle of nowhere just because there a good route nearby
