Guys, Seems to be a lot of talk about jackets for the winter - but what about your legs?
Think it's starting to get a bit cold for just shorts - so what's recommended to keep your legs warm?
I was thinking about a pair of Ron Hill Traksters or similar with padded shorts.

Top tip: Save money on leggings and avoid being taken for a gay roadie. Simply grow proper hairy legs ......and get a good coating of mud on them (to muck up the car on the way home)

Ha ha ..that's why the baggies go on top! Ps ..I have the hairy legs too for extra insulation

This should be linked to that thread where the "more flamboyant" amongst us will find that if you fit a big front mudguard you can wear ladies tights or stockings.
PS Don't wear fishnet ones though 'cos they aren't very warm and the mud leaves diamond patterns on your legs.

You could do worse than to look at my post for Groupon / cycle surgery ..in the discount code section.. You would have to download the Groupon app though

Last year i went down the route of cheapo running trousers with a padde liner, baggies over the top with my knee and shin pad setup. No problems for me. Be interested to knwo what people do for gloves? I tend to struggle to find thick ones that fit properly.

iv had and got quite a few pairs of winter gloves and my sealskin ones have been the best and most comfy. they're preformed to a clasped hand which makes em comfy, iv also heard that they are now stitched at the finger tips to avoid the liners being pulled out when taking em off.

I'll second this. I can honestly say I never feel cold through wearing shorts, even in sub zero temperatures. I hate wearing trousers on the bike and leggings/tights or whatever they get called......no......just no

-2 when I got back to the car last night in Gisburn Forest. When it's this cold I wear some cheapo Aldi padded long cycling pants with baggies over the top or baggies with a pair of the leg warmers

Seal skin long socks when really cold and humvees cover most of my legs and knee pads do the rest. Only wear water proof trousers in torrential rain or snow.

Sealskin socks (army issue) cheap shitty Muddyfox tights for the coldest of days to keep the chill off but I always have a pair of baggy shorts on, I mean who wants to see a fat, bald, middle aged blokes arse in tights hanging off the back of the bike? I do try to think of others when I'm out!

Shorts all year round, its the hands and feet which are the hardest part of the body to keep warm!
If its wet, then tights will be a big no no. As you know, the Posties wear shorts, as legs dry quicker than clothing, so if you're out in the rain, its wise not to wear tights. Do you fancy riding around with cold, damp tights! If its super cold in the middle of winter, you may be allowed to wear tights (Yeah, i do have a pair myself, but they only come out in the coldest of days, which isnt usually until the new year), but anything else, padded undershorts, long socks and baggies is just fine

I have worn ( as explained earlier) fleece lined bib tights over padded shorts with baggies on top in all manner of winter conditions including torrential rain and snowy blizzard conditions and have always felt them to be a benefit ...not a hinderence .

Last year i got away with doubling up using a thin liner pair with my normal ones over the top but my pocs are a little too snug to get away with that now. think ill have to have a nosey. Burton, merio socks are what you need! got a few pairs from on-one really nice an warm
