That really is a handsome bike.
I bet you'll take good care of the transmission with cassettes at £150 a pop. What do you think to the 11 speed overall?

My last bike was also 11 speed so i'm more than used to it now, and as I split my Commencal I have kept the Cassette and chain as spares for this bike so I shouldnt have to worry about a new cassette for a while. 11speed is great, nice crisp shifting its also good having the 10 cog as well as the 42, it gives you a few more options with chainring size, it's very rare that I have to get off the bike and push, the only down side is that it's ultra sensitive to cable tension.

Just carried out a simple but effective mod to the bike which cost me nothing as I already had the parts in the house from the last time I owned a Canyon.
I changed the top shock mount from the standard one to a Titanium Burgtec offset bush, doing that has changed the head angle by half a degree from 66.4 to 65.9, it's also dropped the bottom bracket by a few mm and changed the wheel length from 1158mm to 1180mm. I thought about sticking the bottom bush in too but I think that would have slackened and dropped the bottom bracket too much.
The reason for doing the above is because after the Commencal (which had great high speed stability) the Spectral just felt a bit twitchy when the speed got up, apart from that I really enjoyed the way the bike rides, it just flies through stiff that the Commencal would have gotten bogged down on (climbing wise) I'm going to take the bike to Glentrass this week to see how it fully compares against the Commencal on trails that I know.

Yip it's deffo a quick bike and will take a few rides to get the hang of it, it accelerates like no bike i've ridden before. And yeah, I set a PR on Spooky Wood even after having to slow down twice due to slower riders, I also set a PR on a climb that always used to take it out of me lol. Here is a couple of pics from today's outing. Now roll on Wednesday

Climb or down or both ? Really like the bike Euan ..very tidy looking . It's funny what we wish for can sometimes be a major disappointment .. I tried a nomad carbon when they first came out a couple of years back ...and got off it swearing that I wouldn't swap it for my gen 1..even though it was considerably lighter..it just didn't feel as planted . I'm sure things will have improved in the preceding years ..however the best Santa Cruz bike I have personally slung a leg over is without doubt the 5010 c ..650 b ..as a light trail bike with less travel it just flew around Glentress ..I did notice a bit of pedal strike when cornering but would have one tomorrow if I had the money . Hope today went well and you love your machine ....

They feel fairly similar to my XT's but with more power and less squeal, I'll see how they perform in a few weeks time

I gave the bike a going over today and noticed the dreaded cable rub had started to show it's ugly face. Having noticed it I decided to take some action, I have a load a carbon vinyl lying around so got busy cutting and blow drying. End result is Rear non drive chainstay Downtube Also had a Canyon sticker lying around so put it to some use on the Dfender You may also notice the change of bars and back to the original Renthal stem
