Yup, I didn't even ride a BMX as a nipper - football all the way with me, didn't even own a bike from the age of about 15 to 50!!. I've basically started 3 summers ago from scratch and have tried to learn off others, but with patchy results. I really, really should do a skills course and I will in the Spring - fancy it?

Looks impressive - not sure I have the skills/balls to give it a go though. Really need to get out on the dog more and do less single track.

Shame you won't be there to see it mate adams up for a ride out The time to do those rock gardens is NOW ...while the section is still new ... Bit of speed and just bladder through.... The problems going to arise a little way down the line ...when the in-fill soil has eroded /washed away... Then it will become more of a challenge!!

Doesn't look like a black section to me but the pictures might not do it justice, the rock garden looks fun but doesn't look rough enough to warrant black status and again, after the wood work I would expect a black section to have a drop off but they have put three big steps there which means as long as your not a spanner you could roll down Like I say pictures might make it seem easy but it doesn't look anything to worry about, ill hopefully get up to cannock soon so ill give it a go

I watched the comp on it the other month and was watching closely for lines. That last section worries me most, especially as i saw hom many pro's/racers stuggle. I'll give it go me, no worries. I came off a black skinny at Dalbeattie that was about 8' in the air. I just wheelied off and prayed. So the boardwalks don't scare me the rocks.... Looking at the photos it's the other for me. I don't mind smashing through a rock section, but put me near some skinnies and suddenly I have the grace and poise of a 4 minute old giraffe on ice. Im exactly the same, for some reason I cope better at rock gardens than I do anything else

Black sections vary wildly, in my experience - for instance the Blacks at Degla are just reds at most other places. There is nothing at Degla anywhere near as challenging as this little section, nor on the W2 trail at Afan, either. Not a very exact science is this trail grading malarkey.

Sometimes you can't understand where they get the gradings from . The W2 is just 2 reds together .It's just the length of it that makes it a black

Who decided to grade the werewolf drop as black? It's not even a drop,it's a gentle roll

Who decided to grade the werewolf drop as black? It's not even a drop,it's a gentle roll I think because they've graded the dog as a Red, it's a wee bit harder, so nowhere to go but black. Dog should be a blue, Werewolf a Red.That's probably going too far the other way, tbh. Grade the Dog a blue and you'd have total beginners complaining to the Chase trails. I can see how hard it must be to grade a trail as they are all so different. I would think any trail that has any unavoidable technical features (think of the stega and the little rock feature before it for eg) HAS to be graded red as a warning. Llandegla is even less technical than the Dog - but is a lot more flowy and fast with a lot of jumpy bits so that would merit a red just because of that probably. iRide did the new black section like it was nothing, too - I totally bottled it. A very good illustration of how one man's black feature is anothers Blue. S'pose you can't please everyone, is the probable moral.

I also bottled this black section today the little boards put me off and my other half just carried on leaving me to take ride of shame back onto the red all alone . On the upside though the dog and monkey were riding great, nearly fell off looking for all the puddles on upper cliff!!!

Yes I do, so does burton and I have running mate who rides and MTB who's up for it.
I contacted cycleactive who have put some good vids on youtube and the bloke seemed very friendly and helpful. They are based in Penrith but out training days on at Cannock.
cycleactive.com/index.php/mountain-bike-courses
ETA I've just spoken to them and briefly the cost of a 1 day trail skills course at Cannock is £89 per person (max 8), but they also do bespoke courses which cost £220 day (£260 at w/end) +£100 fuel charge for up to 3 people + £40 per person above 3.
On these figures, a weekday course for 4 of us at Cannock would cost £220+100+40 / 4 = £90 each . We'd be cheaper with more than 4 of course.
Worth considering?
Edit to add a link to one of their numerous videos:

Also they put money back into Chase Trails which helps maintain the trails.
If you can support the local providers!!
