Hi all. I've got a problem with my chain slipping when putting any power into the pedals in the higher gears so much so that it's rendering the bike useless. I went 1x10 a couple of months ago with the following (all New):
32t hope narrow wide Xt cassette with one up 42t expander Xt clutch mech Xt chain
I did have some idexing issues due to chain length but I seemed to get that sorted. The chain then started to slip every so often and with everything being new I suspected the free hub as its a few years old. So I replaced that and the chain slip is now worse than ever. So I'm now all out of ideas?
Need this sorted asap as I'm racing next weekend

At a guess, I'd say chain is too long!
This is one of those things that's hard to answer unless you see it happening!

That's what I'm starting to suspect. After I had the indexing issues I put it into a lbs to sort it out and the guy added a few links and reindexed it. When I queried the chain length he said it was fine. Going out shortly but may try removing a couple of links tomorrow to see what effect it has.

Got to be worth a try.
The fact everything is new rules out wear. Unless something is defective, I can only see it being chain length.
Hope you sort, pal.

You've got to go KMC - I'm a Shimano fanboy - but their chain system really is utter pants...

Might be worth getting a oneup rad cage. Sets the rd so it follows the cassette, means more chain is wrapped around the cassette and less chance of it slipping.

Yeah, will see what difference shortening the chain makes first

I'm absolutely fed up with this bastard bike. I really wish I hadn't gone 1x10, the bike has been more or less useless since I did it.I'm supposed to be racing next weekend and I need this sorted and I'm at a complete loss at what to try next. Tried shortening the chain with no success, the chain still slips (tried various lengths). I have noticed when you back pedal the chain doesn't roll smoothly over the cassette and jumps now and again. Here's a video of what I mean (ignore the wife's voice over) s65.photobucket.com/user/Stu_Fraser/media/VIDEO0020_zpswil4kkja.mp4.htmlI'm just wondering whether the chain line is off and every now and again the chain catches the next largest cog on the cassette which lifts the chain and causes it to slip? Could be talking bollocks but I really don't know what's happening. I did try adding another spacer to the drive side bottom bracket to move the chain line further out but it didn't improve things. I give up on it now as it needs to be sorted for next weekend so it's going in somewhere next week. Tempted to ditch the 42t in the process and stick with the 11-36 cassette and just mtfu!! Now where is my beer

However it looks to me like it isn't aligned properly

looks like indexing is off... well that is how it looks like if running clockwise, ..cables sticky? bent hanger? bent cage (could happen even new one)
ditching 42? so it only happens when you fit the 42t hen?

Can't tell if it's running like that when running clockwise as it only slips under load so you can't replicate it on the work stand. Everything looks straight and it shifts up and down fine it just slips when giving it some beans in the higher gears. I've had enough fiddling with it so it's going in somewhere else on Monday. Not the place I put it into last time mind

That also seems to be fine Euan. I'm really not spending any more time working on it, it's annoying me too much. I'll put it into the shop tomorrow and let you all know what was wrong (if they can sort it out)

If they can't get it running with the 42t I'm telling them to throw the twatting thing in the bin and just to set it up with the standard cassette

My Nukeproof has a similar setup only the chain is kmc and the rd has a rad cage fitted. It is working perfectly, shifts spot on and doesn't slip even with my 15 stone pushing on it!
