Delighted to be able to confirm our Scottish trip this year ..which I have been organising in the background over the last few days .. From the "invitations" sent out via email only Dave , Jean & Graham responded ..with the disappointment of Colin being unable to make these dates . The accomodation is booked ..so while anyone out there is welcome ..after struggling to find suitable accomodation ( Portree) ..you will have to find your own B&B's ! Spookily Ian , Russell & two other lads are going here at the beginning of May on dates more convenient to them .. It's the MTB hot spot of choice for this year me bonny lads & lasses! Monday 30th ..travel up with a very early start ( 7 hour trip ) and do the Sligachan there & back in the afternoon ..no time for the full loop this time even though sunset will be around 9.30pm..this and the drive up will be long enough! Tuesday 31st ...Idrigill around the western coastline ( 31 miles) Wednesday 1st June ...2hour drive up to Applecross for 2 there and back rides ..one from Toscaig to a remote derelict settlement on the south peninsula ..the other from Applecross to Kenmore ..both achievable on the day and both superb....early evening meal at The Applecross Inn before the drive back to Skye ? Thursday 2nd June ...either an easy but picturesque 11 mile ride around Suisnish or a terrifying 10 mile technical fest around the Quirang on Skye before either ending up in pieces at the nearest hospital or a leisurely journey home ! We will make that call on the day ..depending on how fresh we feel ! Can't wait ...

Yes ..we are staying for 3 nights ..and envisage also doing a ride on the Thursday before heading for home ...choice from two routes ..both short rides but one being a lot easier than the other .... So 3 nights ..four rides ...got to milk it for all its worth !

Gel & Ibu's! It's not really but I can live with it .. I never feel it at all when on the bike . There are two shortish rides ..Sliggy ..techy but as a there and back not too much in the way of climbing that's the first afternoon ..then either an easy 11miler or a very technical 10 miler on the morning of the last day

Not exactly sure ...I know that the schools are off that week ..which is the main reason we have picked it ( Jean works in a school ..and is restricted to their holiday times )

That's a shame Gaz ..keep 2017 free as it's usually around this time that we do a Scottish trip ..the riding really is awesome up there and it would be a pleasure to have you along ..

Big write up on Skye in the March edition of MBR Magazine..which gives an option of a lollipop route on the Slighachan ride on tracks none of us have previously ridden ..one of the pull out maps ..could be interesting instead of a pure there and back ...

Are you still looking at this Glynn ? Last you said was that Bank Holiday could be a problem ..but didn't rule yourself out .. im not ruling it out completely neil, but its not likely. with it being a bank holiday, we dont usually book holidays, if we're rota'd to work its not the done thing to book a holiday.

I sometimes wonder if the routemeisters of mtb publications actually check out where they are sending folk. Having spoken to Russell on Thursday about the additional loop on the Sligachan there and back as featured on the pull out map in the March addition of MBR ...he informed me that one particular part of the route ( The Bad Step) ..which admittedly the magazine said you had to walk your bike on ...would be difficult enough just to walk down minus a bike ..without taking a dip in the sea below ... So intrigued I had a look to see if I could find any images.. uk.search.yahoo.com/search?p=the+bad+step+skye&fr=iphone&.tsrc=apple&pcarrier=EE&pmcc=234&pmnc=30Are they for fucking real ...! Suffice to say that this boy will be sticking to what he knows ...a straight forward there and back ..without the additional loop and rock climbing alternative !
