Good points Neil. Last time out I think it had been dry leading up to the ride and the single track after the descent from the calves was still a mess in places.
I still enjoyed it though and the erosion probably made it more interesting it was all perfectly rideable with occasional pedal strikes but I get you that it's not some speedy pump track.
The stuff you showed us after the hill road climb up from the pub was good with lots of variety.
I would suggest we do the Rosedale ride as the planned ride and then we can do the bowerdale at shorter notice after a dry spell. I would be glad to show gaz and anyone else around it from what I can recall from a dodgy memory aided by the map from last time. Rosedale is also new to me so I'm happy. Variety is the spirit of life and all that.

exploring is part of the fun is it not?
Most of the Borrowdale route was easy to navigate, well once we found the right route out of town and then we went a bit squiffly at the boring halfway stage as you meet the killer high speed main road that we tried our best to avoid, the route to avoid it was a bit tiresome to be honest but got good soon after. Those were the only two tricky parts.

I'm sure Glynn won't let us down with a route, (where ever it is) it is his ride after all.

Glynn...what about that ride we did once? Stanage, Blacka, Burbage, Lady Cannings...it was a great ride! it is a great ride, but i dont like taking a group of 6-8 riders over cheeky bits, i dont mind if im on my own or in just a small group. i did a similar version of it today but instead of burbage edge i went over higger tor (another cheeky) . up to now theres no clear preference for june. most dont mind, and im prefering rosedale as iv not done it before, and gaz prefers bowderdale. whichever one we do there is always the chance of taking a few wrong turns (remember swaledale lads ) as im just following my garmin rather than knowing the route. there is always cutgate to throw into the mix, just to confuse things even more . i'll give it till sunday, then decide.

Well, as I'm working that day and so can't come - I'll vote for Bowderdale It was a tremendous ride, shame that it was so eroded in parts as that would have been a lovely flowy section down the side of the valley. Personally, I probably wouldn't ride it again - but only as it's so far away for me and that there are still so many other trails I haven't yet ridden but want to. Anyway - enjoy yer lucky buggers!

What about Lee Quarry? i heard its great! Lee quarry is not great but it is differentbut. It's okay as a wet option if you are nearby I wouldn't travel too far although some do. It defo isn't a forum ride. If you want to do Gisburn one day we could do Lee quarry on the way back. (Way back for m62 for you) so you kill two birds in one stone and make up your own mind.

I've decided that next month when I visit Workington, I'm doing Whinlatter on the way up, and Gisburn on the way down, the next day! Should be good! Then I can score between them and Degla, which one is best!

I'd be interested in your thoughts, when you do. I haven't done Whinlatter or Gisburn, only Degla. If either match or are better than Degla - they are going on my 'must do' list!

Since I'm on my own around the Lakes, doing Whinlatter is an easy and safer option i guess.

If you are going to gisburn on the Friday on your return give me a shout as sometimes have or can arrange a Friday off to meet and show you around. Would need to start by 10 though so I can get back for the school run. If I'm not working I'm not earning then I'm not paying for the kids to go to after school club.

Wednesday are generally better but I can do any in theory I just need to know at the middle of the week before so I can tell both clients I'm working with what days I will work the following week. The benefit being self employed is that its up to me.

right lads! as i said theres no outstanding preference, we'll go with the bowderdale ride. hopefully we can find our way through a better route just before ravenstonedale, rather than across the fields with no real track like last time. other than this short ish section the rest of it is really good. just might need a bit of help from hodgy for the postcode for the carpark in sedburgh. for those that havnt done it before be prepared for a monster climb from the start up the calf. that will be the biggest climb of the day, after that quite alot of the rest is downhill.
