Back to the cars at about half 10. Yes, when Ian said that I was wondering if I should've packed my bivvy bag.
I think this stretch of the Sandstone Way is going to catch quite a few people out - short nasty climbs that if you're fully loaded with 3 days worth of kit would be evil. It's not hybrid country either.

www.strava.com/activities/290855528Was a nice bimble out with excellent company as usual. Quite a few short and steep hills (your knee wouldn't have liked it) and lots of dust! Dust! In April? Nice. So everything that was a bog a few weeks ago was (mostly) nice and firm under tyre. Which reminds me - I must change my tyres to something less draggy over the weekend. A tad cold (1.7 degrees according to the Garmin) at the end though as it took longer than Ian thought it would. The new steed: Neil: The glorious Northumberland countryside...

Nah, the SC. Never got the fatty: On-One dicked around too much so got the Blur instead.

Go on Neil. You know you want to, knock back a few ibuprofen for the swelling and you'll be fine... probably... (I am not a doctor).
I'm bringing the new bike along...

If you give us locals a bit of notice we could organise a natural ride for you (plenty of belters up here, Edmundbyers loop springs to mind) so you spend more time on the bike, less in the car.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-32319375Don't know where I stand on this: wildlife good, coming round a corner to meet a Lynx which goes into 'fight or flight' mode and chooses 'fight' bad. Saying that I'm sure they'd hear you coming way before you got anywhere close and move off into the undergrowth.

I had a cheapo magicshine ebay clone jobby light fail me on a night ride. 'Fortunately' it was at the start of the final descent back in to Edmundbyers and I was with a few others so I just had to keep up with them and use their lights to see. Was an interesting 15 minute exercise in concentration... Only 1 OTB when I hit a hole that stopped my front wheel instantly.

Had the week off with the nippers and went to visit the folks back down south. Took the bikes along and managed to get a few night rides out on the trails I used to ride as a teenager/early 20 somethinger. There's nothing quite like a break of a few years and riding at night to spice up the trails you came to think off as a bit boring having moved up north to the mtb mecca of (almost) Northumberland. Was great, had a huge grin on my face the entire way round and even managed to set a 2015 KOM in the dark on one stretch (not bad for a 29er HT - see if you can beat it). Nearly shat myself a few nights previous doing pretty much the same ride coming round a corner and coming face to face with a mahoosive red deer with the biggest antlers I've ever seen. Fortunately he legged it. Couldn't believe how dry it was and got lulled into a false sense of security on the first ride and went through Robins Wood on the first night - big mistake! Now I remember why I only rode in there in the height of summer... Happy days, even managed to get the Mrs round Hicks Lodge with me hauling the kids round in their trailer - all good cardio workouts. www.strava.com/activities/281755314/overview

So, just clinging on for dear life, wobbling all round the corner with your eyes tight shut ISN'T the correct technique then? Bollocks.. You're supposed to squeeze your butt cheeks together too.

Get the stupidly expensive Stans rim strip (the rubber ones, not the tape) or use the cheaper ghetto version (24" inner tube cut down) to line the rim. Sounds like you're not getting a tight enough seal on the bead. ...says the man who I was once following uphill on the way to Chopwell woods from Prudhoe and he had a rear tyre explosion ( there was a flash !) covering me with white gunk ..but looked like something which rhymes with gunk.. Try explaining that to the missus when you get home from a night ride ! That was my experimental Manpaste (Tm) sealant with active ingredients... still not sure how that happened.

From reading other threads on other forums Halfords can get you pretty much any make of bike, not just what they have on their website - give them a call to see what they can do.
