I'd be up for this again. To get your juices flowing here's a video I did the last time I did it with Hodgy: Good decision postponing a group ride to the dryer months. Great vid Andy - you looked like you were on a motorbike at times! Nice editing and tunes too. Ride looks fantastic, but I can imagine in inclement weather it would be a totally different story! Thanks, Nah, Hodgy is just really slow on the downs even though he's got a Nomad. Just been looking at my strava data for the ride and the moving time was only 3h 24mins but with all the stops/waiting for the slow ones/tyre explosions (bloody water bars ) it took about 6 hours to get round I think. www.strava.com/activities/67107214Some photos: s1075.photobucket.com/user/andyrutter/library/Bowderdale?sort=2&page=1Hodgy is the one falling in the river - another good reason why not to do the ride in winter. Think they're 2 more after this one.

When I first moved up here I was looking for routes so bought the beyond hamsterley guide and that is exactly the way they did the ride at the start. Strange people.

I got one of these last year in the sales after getting fed up of my so called waterproof jacket not being. Gore Alp-XExpensive: Yes Waterproof: Yep, 6 hour ludicrously wet ride in the Lakes in March time with Hodgy et al and not a drop inside. Breathable: Extremely. Was also considering the Endura Venturi II but this one fit me better.

Back on thread....
It's getting built this week! I think I'm more excited than my 3 year old son was decorating the tree yesterday.

Man ..that's so disappointing ..I would have hurled dogs abuse at you had you kept those pink tyres ! I'm betting that I- rideabike would have paid good money for those as well ..just so that he could colour co-ordinate with his favourite tipple at the pub ... You ever going to get out with us lot again? Ps how's the family ? It's still coming with the pink tyres so if anyone wants them let me know. Been a tough few months since mini me #2 was born but things seem to be calming down now (famous last words). Hoping to get out on an adventure soon. Keep me informed. Look at the number of buyers on STW on one must be thinking Christmas has come early.

I've given in and just hit the 'buy' button on this: www.on-one.co.uk/i/q/CBOOFATLTD/on-one-fatty-limited-edition-fat-bike Now, before you spit whatever you're eating all over your screen consider this. I found a secret 20% code so have also upgraded to carbon forks, a reverb and a pair of on one fat tyres to replace the pink ones for less than the price of the normal fat bike. The only thing different is the tyres between the 2 specs so bargainlicious! In case you're wondering the code is: ukstaffcla20. It was supposed to expire on Dec 1st but is still working as off a few moments ago. Now the waiting begins... I'm going to need a bigger garage.

Did someone say the cross border? www.strava.com/activities/94381794Will I get banned from this site if I do a linky back to a certain other site where I did a write up of the last time I did it? Ah, fortune favours the brave, here goes nothing, etc: www.mtbe.co.uk/kielder-cross-border-10th-nov-pics-t42512.html. Just a note: Some of the surface of the Lonesome Pine / Bloody Bush trail leaves a bit to be desired. The contractor ran out of funds before finishing it properly, then the economic downturn bit and it's never been properly surfaced. You have been warned. If you get there and have any queries pop into the bike shop - very helpful bunch of lads. EDIT: just remembered I uploaded a video of the blue Osprey trail to youtube:

Have they ever been before? Are they newbies? Reason I ask is the lakeside way is 26 odd miles on a 2m wide, smooth, electric buggy friendly cemented gravel path. Lots of nice views and a nice way to stretch the legs with more up and down than you'd think but in no way really demanding (unless it's blowing a gale). The blue (osprey) route is great fun. If you usually stick to reds give this one a go. After the initial fireroad climb the trail is fast and flowing - if it had the jumps and drops of a red people would rave about it. The Lonesome Pine is sort of an intro red. Pretty easy technically but with lots of climbing but the last downhill (Skydive) back to the village is great fun. Both take in parts of the lakeside way. The Deadwater trail is the best up there though. It's undergoing some TLC / a revamp at the minute so I think some parts are closed. Hodgy'll be along soon to confirm. Depending on weather/your mood it's not really worth doing the top loop to the top of Deadwater Fell, stop at the top of Into the Valley. It's a great trail with punishing ups and great grin inducing downs, the black part has also been finished after being updated by the northern downhill lads and used in their trail bike TT race last weekend - looks good from the parts I've seen. My usual route from the car park by the castle: deadwater to top of Into the Valley, follow that to the black (up and over and the rest), down to the forest drive, turn right, take the first fireroad on the right, climb up that staying left at the fork. Rejoin the Deadwater at Twist and Shout after a breather for the fun last downhill section. Then go and do all of the blue if you've got the energy... Maps here: www.visitkielder.com/play/adventure/mountain-bikingPS: the bike shop up there have got some very nice Santa Cruz 5010, TBLT / Kona's and Orange 5's for demo. Give them a bell if you want to try one. www.thebikeplace.co.uk/

^ this and before cutting measure from the bottom of the post to the minimum insertion line. Make sure you'll have at least this length of post left to go in the frame after cutting BEFORE you cut it. File down the edges and Bob's your uncle (possibly, unless he's called Dave)
Buy a shorter post?

Neil,
Much as I would live to come along mini-me #2 has yet to arrive and the mrs cannot look after Nathan on her own. Whilst I could bring him along I think he'd get a bit bored...
