End of the day, you could use Saint DH 4pots .. but if the pads are shite (which IMO SRAM are) that powerful master/caliper don't count for much
The Guide RS on my Mega are simply awesome (but not wooden feeling if ya know what I mean)

Long shot this I know, but any chance you have somehow contaminated the rotors/pads ? .. a little overspray of the GT85, or chain cleaner, any aerosol in fact .. just a thought, its easy done
I have a little trick that works a treat if you have .. might be worth a go before shelling out again! tho saying that, I don't think I'd choose any other make of brake pad now TBH .. even if they are contaminated and could be cleaned successfully

I used these .. www.chainreactioncycles.com/nukeproof-avid-x0-trail-guide-disc-brake-pads/rp-prod129759 .. (sintered) ... along with a 203mm front rotor, tho the bigger rotor was just the way I like the stoppers, the 180 was great with the NP pads also
They made a world of difference, and depending on whether you have the Guide R, RS, or RSC .. (I think the RSC has reach and bite point adjust) these pads are a fraction thicker, so you can back the reach adjuster off a bit if you like a solid feeling bite on the disc
My Mega is a bit of a lump, and these brakes are now easily capable of hauling it and me to a stop on a sixpence, but with a very light feel and free stroke, unlike my XT's on tother bike ..

Tis very nice
Whats the prob with the brakes ? (if they're Guides, ditch the SRAM pads for a start .. they are sheeiit!)

That sure is a purdy lookin bike
If the factory WP forks on my KTM are anything to go by, those WP/Magura USD's could be a revelation

Thanks for taking the time to do this Kalli, much appreciated
I've had a B'stard of a long day today, so I'll plan a route based on your post when I can think straight
Lookin forward to getting over there again, its been a while, I might even pop over on the Trek and get some miles under my belt on the forestry roads, I need some "bum on saddle" time desperately at the mo .. I think my legs have turned to Haribo

They could be the one's, but I have no idea TBH, virtually all the trails seem shrouded in mystery (understandably )
This link shows the one .. .. I'm not even sure if the "waterfall run" is also called "the Jungle Run" .. or is that another ??
I love it over there TBH, but yeah, its a clay mud bath every time I go .. I did manage to go one day a while ago when most places I went were actually dry, and it blew my mind .. never known it like that since ..

Hi Kalli, I'm after the location of the start of "dog kennel" .. and "the waterfall run"
I've ridden over there on and off for years and normally park at the end of the old railway track at the bottom of Tanners Hill I think its called (?) .. so may have ridden parts of these trails in the past already, but would like to know where they actually start and do them start to finish
I have the OS map for the forest if its easier to PM me a grid reference ?
Thanks in advance

These frames are a great starting point for a less expensive build, nice and strong and pretty light
I could only really salvage the frame and wheels from the original bike which was a proper state, but I already had some donor parts hanging around the cave which saved a good few £££, cus even doing it on a budget, and sourcing good used parts it starts to tot up! glad I used my old RS forks instead of the original plan of fully rigid .. the B'roads round here are rough as fook, even when I lock the forks out for a climb and forget to open them up again, I'm soon reaching for the lockout knob, as all the vibe from the high pressure road tyres hurts my wrists
Good luck with the build dude, and keep the pics coming

I built my road MTB from an old HardRock basket case ... already had a fork, brakes, and couple other things but did it for around £100 in the end I think it was inc. x2 Michelins, Deore cranks and new Deore BB, 11/36 cassette etc.
Still going strong .. great little bike to be fair

Just to confuse further .. on mine (Monarch+ RC3 Debonair) the lever goes the other way
4o'clock = rock hard 6o'clock = normal (all round type of setting) 8o'clock = soft as shite
but they are all very different and noticeable .. I recently put a bit more pressure in mine and it has made the difference even more noticeable

I was gonna sell my Trek and build a well specced 275 HT, but like you say, looking at the "off the shelf" stuff these days, there's not much in it at curtain price brackets with 11spd and M8000 bits as standard ..
My 2 peneth is:
Pike = legendary .. nothing to add DB RC3 = legendary .. nothing to add
Brakes .. now, I always thought a well set up XT brake is as much braking as anyone would need unless in a DH application, however .. then I bought a bike with SRAMs Guide RS stoppers ... and ok, I made a couple of changes (203mm FT rotor, and Nukeproof sintered pads instead of the shite SRAM pads) but the difference is night and day! .. featherlight modulation, and a lot more stopping power .. (and just for the record, I have the same mods to the XT brakes on the Trek, and the SRAMs are on a different page!)

Go on then .. I'll take the new Team 275
Be honest .... when you look at the pic of the "Digger" ... what do you initially see looking at the graphic on the down tube !! Yeah not the best cera angle on that was it lol The Race looks good value. Will be sticking with my antique 26'er TR for a while though. God, I hope they don't do a stealthy black version

Did you go with the link I sent or somewhere else mate ?
I've gotta accept that I'm always gonna look a bit of a goon in an MTB lid .. though this one is probably the least goonish I've tried, probably due to the way your head fits up pretty high into the helmet rather the mushroom effect!
I'm hoping to get it dirty soon, tho the Mrs is having an op on Tuesday so I'll just have to roll with it at the mo ... although the project I've been working on all year that's been the main reason for keeping me off the trails is almost weather/winter proof now, which means I can work on it no matter what the weather is doing for a change so hopefully we'll have a decent autumn !!

pity ktm, its ideal nukeproof territory Great stuff, and I'll deffo be putting my name down for a few outings with you guys when they come up, but I'm just being realistic at the mo, and need get bike fit again .. don't get me wrong, I'm no couch spud, just not bike fit if ya know what I mean and I don't wanna spoil anyones ride out by being a cardio vascular mongtard with no bike skills LOL! (actually .. I better forget the whole idea then )

Used to do lot of climbing at Stanage, Burbage, the Roaches .. stunning area, I'd deffo be up for a guided tour on an MTB up that way when I'm fit again perhaps next year
I'm down Worcester way but as I said, I used to get up there with my climbing partner proper early, climb all day, and get back around 9pm .. proper fooked! .. but would be a waste of time at the mo, just not getting enough saddle time at the mo
Have fun guys
