Towards the end of this month, I'll be stumping up £1000 or more on some suspension forks for my Mega. I have almost settled on Bos Deville forks but really would value peoples opinions on other options. Below are links to the two sets of forks I've been looking at mostly but was wondering if there are any others I've not thought of? The criteria is:- 160-170mm travel, for 27.5" wheel, upto £1200 Cheers all BOS DevilleDeville Link
Deville Link 2
Fox 36 FloatFox Link

Don't think this will affect your judgement ..but I have been running the Fox Float RC 2 36's on my Nomad for seven years without fault .. If anything it's maybe too much fork for my style of riding ..but plush ..real plush ! There have obviously been improvements over the years ..but in terms of reliability these baby's have never let me down ! I can't really comment on the Bos ...as I have no experience of them ..and only know what I have read on here and in bike mags ...some excellent and some not so good ( mainly due to servicing issues..) Why do you need so much travel anyway ...?

For bling, BOS..... But for serviceability, and availability of spares... this years fox 36, Id go as far to say.. They're best fork currently on the market, now they've sorted the last couple of years shitty cartridges out!...

I was just going to suggest these. The newer marzocchi forks are getting good reviews. I'm definitely going for the 380s for my downhill build

Like I say, they are just basic forks and I would be interested in knowing if the 'characteristics' of Fox forks changes the higher you go up the range!? My 32's work well but would choose my old SID's or Lyriks any day over the Fox's. I know that nobody sticks to service intervals but the BOS service interval is every two years.. I have been given details of a company that will service them for a very reasonable amount of money.. Also, I seem to remember being told or reading that the seals on the BOS are Fox items anyway!? As for travel..... 160-170mm because A) I can. B) i love long travel forks and C) hopefully, there will be no need for me to buy a DH bike.

Aren't the service intervals absolutely ridiculous? I appreciate that people don't stick to the recommended intervals but, you know.. Also, and I know it's probably a daft question but, will these 'feel' different to my 32's? I know my forks and these 36's are in completely different ball-parks but with Rockshox, they all have a familiar 'feeling' to me..

Is there nowhere near were you can demo some forks. I probably should've checked this before posting but I'm sure I read that you can demo the fox 36's at bpw

On the Devilles, you will never get 2 years out of them before needing a service. I actually got 3 months...
Just bear that in mind.

I would never expect to get 2 years from the Devilles between services just like I would never expect to service Fox 36's every 30hrs.. With all respect though, I could never ride the forks in the way that you probably did. Maybe that would make a difference?

Good reply ...and my question regarding the amount of travel needed was based on the fact that it was a larger wheel size and from riding / testing a 650b Santa Cruz with 140 mm front and back ..I never found this lacking compared to the 160mm on my own 26" wheeled bike If however you are talking about using it for downhill duties .. Then I fully understand your reasoning ! On a lighter note ..I never brought into question your ability to afford them ...you flash git !!!

I'm not sure riding style would make much of a difference really. The advantage of a Pike or 36 over the Deville when it comes to servicing is that you can do them yourself really easily, while doing the same to a Deville is next to impossible, as you can't get hold of the oil and there are no instructions anywhere. My Pikes get a lowers and air spring service every 3 months (either by myself or SRAM tech), and this has been keeping them happy. I expect you could do the same with the 36, so it would save quite a lot in service costs.

Nothing that would really warrant a full on DH bike but more than a FS XC bike would do. I see my Mega as being an all-mountain/Enduro bike. I'm 99.9% sure it will cover all bases for me With regarding my ability to afford the forks. I'm not sure I can haha. Seriously though, I got promoted at work and so got a pretty hefty pay rise plus an increase on 7% each year for 3 years (first due in may). I'm simply building my dream bike whilst I can! Who knows, In a few years, for whatever reason, I may not be able too:(

Yep ..get it while you can .. I was the same as you when I got ( what was then ) my dream bike ..couldn't do it right now though ! Tough decision to make ..hope you choose the right one ..from the info on the table ( from getonyour & Adam ) .. I'd be choosing the Fox's .. On the basis ..if you've got it ...you don't have to flaunt it ( I've never had it !!)

If it's a dream build, once in a lifetime never to be repeated money no object kinda thing then ignore your head and go with your heart. If you get the Fox's you will always wish you had gone for the Deville's.

Haha ...I'm gonna add to your brain scramble by saying that I don't neccesarily agree with Barrfy's logic .. If you get the Fox's and they work beyond your expectations ..you won't have to worry about what you think you have missed ..and how would you ever know anyway ... Bottom line ..get what you want and live with it ..to hell with what might have been ..so you are probably going for the Bos now then ! ?

I know what you mean Hodgy, the reason I say go BOS is because he clearly wants them on the build. Even if the Fox are better than expected, I would still be wondering what all the fuss over BOS is about!
You could be building it up on Hope/Stans wheels if you wanted quality and longevity, but the fact it's getting Enve's finest says something about the build. It's your dream bike and the fork is arguably going to make the biggest difference to the feel. How much better they are over Fox to us mortals I don't know, but it's nice to have nice things.

If you're really torn and moneys no object(sounds like it is even considering 1k forks!!) just get both, have a couple of rides on each and flog the ones you dont want, might loose a couple of hundred selling on but at least you will know and have the best for you out of the two.
