Hope this guy turns up ...
Apparently a mountain biker from Penrith in Cumbria who was staying in Wooler ..didn't return to his B & B last night after a day in the Cheviots
Search & rescue including the Sea King helicopter from RAF Boulmer have been out looking for him all day
It's quiet and remote in these hills at any time but especially at this time of year ..and overnight temps. would be well below freezing
Fingers crossed he turns up unscathed but it don't look good ...

When I watch any of those survival things on TV I always think "whats the point, walk in any direction for an hour or two in this country and you'll hit civilisation?" but when it comes to it anything can happen out in the sticks. You break a bone and immobilize yourself and thats pretty much it which considering we all participate in the sport we do is a very real danger. Good idea to carry the survival essentials if your going for longer rides, especially alone.

Not that I can see either ...no further update
Right now I'm really hoping that he has maybe "done a runner " ...and is sitting safe somewhere ..but the fact that he has left some belongings at the hotel would suggest not.
I really don't rate his chances of surviving two nights ..given the weather conditions if he is injured somewhere ..but hope I'm wrong ...

To be fair, can he really be given 100% of the blame?? Afterall, he just checked into a B&B under a false name for whatever reason.. Hundreds of people do that everyday!
He didn't ask for all the folk to go searching for him. It's not like he made a prank call and said he was lost on his bike, is it?
All he did was check into a B&B under false details and chatted a load of bullshit.. In the past 12-18 months I've stayed in a lot of B&B's and If I wasn't back by a certain time, the owner/manager/reception bird would mind their own bloody business!
