One of my favourite places in the UK is Kippford ..and an alfresco bar meal at the Anchor on a warm summer evening is just fantastic Are you there biking ..or as a family holiday ..or a bit of both ? Enjoy ! Yes mate, staying in a log cabin in kippford again as we did last year.it's a 2 minute ride from the cabin to the dalbeattie red. I was unable to ride last year due to it only being 3 weeks after i smashed me shoulder so i'm really looking forward to itthis year.we had a couple of evenings down at the anchor and i reckon we'll be down again this time too.

We stayed at that site when Alex was only 3 years old in my Dads Motorhome ..which was a bit of a nightmare whenever we wanted to venture out as we had to pack all of his toys away... The climate over there is really warm ..being on the Gulf Stream ..if it's not raining ! Haven't done Dalbeattie yet ..never been allowed to take my bike !

Is anybody sorting accommodation for this? Jay , I've just looked . The lodges that Hodgy has linked look pretty good . It would be Ā£48 per night for 2 people plus Ā£12 extra per extra person . So Ā£20 each per night if there is 3 of you .They hold upto 5 people which is about about Ā£17 each per night . There is a b+b just over the road which is Ā£65 per room per night

Just to add to that there is a hotel / bar just around the corner ..and Peebles is just down the road with loads of places to eat and drink ..and even more B&B's .. I'm sure that a taxi to and from Peebles wouldn't be that expensive shared if everyone wanted more than 3/4 of a pint !

Just resurrecting this thread. Anybody fancy this. I'm probably only looking at one night away as I'm using a few night away tokens already this year. I'm thinking head up on the Saturday, ride at Glentress. Food and drinks in peebles at night. Then ride inners on the Sunday before heading home. What do we think?

I'm still looking at the Saturday ..I haven't put it out there with our boys ( I use that term loosely ) ..but they don't usually need an excuse.. Too close to home to wangle an overnight stay though ...

One new track starts from the mast (black route) and can be ridden all the way down to Peebles in one go but there are options to cut off along the way, it would be a helluva track to do in one go, starts off flattish, looks quite a flat trail so i think it will be fast, then cuts onto an existing trail, its one we took Kirky down, the one he didnt film haha, all this can be accessed going up the red route if the black isnt an option, just keep going up the fire road past spooky woods and you get to it eventually

Sounds good ..something different ...although how you can say anything is flattish starting at the mast when you have a bitch of a climb to get there is beyond me ..lol

Haha aye it does feel a long way up, i mean where it starts theres no real undulations so it's on a downhill gradient without any features, but it gets interesting the more you do... btw, you can go all the way from the car park all the way up to the mast without hitting any trails, just straight up the fireroad, long and boring but the payoff is i recon a 15- 20 min downhill run
