There is only you can answer that one ... From my own point of view I would take time over money all day ! Been there ... Made mega amounts of money but missed a huge chunk of my boy growing up ..which you can never get back ..yes you can have all the toys ..but on balance it just ain't worth it .

I demoted myself last year, best thig I ever did. Get to go home at 4 every day with no stress and watch my two kids grow up. No weekend overtime any more so I can ride every week or every two weeks. I could easily be on £10k more a year salary if I went back to my old role or applied for something else internal, it would be even easier to earn an extra £700 a month staying late and workings weekends like my colleague.
However spending time with my little babies and having my weekends free is priceless
My best mate that I started My apprenticeship with 10 years ago is now taking home £7k a month commissioning, however he has a 3 year old and a 2 month old and is currently in Oman, he then gets back for 6 weeks before going to Pakistan for 13 weeks. I don't envy his wage one bit
If I want to earn big money I'll do it in my 40's/50's get a young whore and a lambo lol but for now I'll stick to riding my bike and looking after two pain in the arse kids

I know how you feel mate. I'm working all the overtime I can at the minute and even when I'm not working I'm at home doing house renovation stuff which the overtime is paying for. I hardly get any time to go out on the bike. Luckily the house isn't far off from being finished, but then it'll be going up for sale as we want a house with a garden and a garage to keep all my shite and ever growing collection of bikes. I'm constantly tired and when I do occasionally get a day off I feel guilty for going out riding when it could be spent with my two year old. There is light at the end of the tunnel though as once we're moved I'll not be doing half as much overtime

I have spent my life avoiding responsibility and promotion at work.. I have seen people stressed out and moaning all day and decided there is no amount of money I would want to be like that for. I made that decision in my early 20's and have stayed faithful to it - turning down requests to apply for promotions all along the way, which has no doubt cost me many thousands over the years.
I have and never will regret that decision. I make enough to keep me and my family happy, that's enough for me.

So, in summary, apart from badass and Typer - we are just a bunch of forest bums and losers

The trouble is lads is our hobby is that addictive and expensive we have to do over time to buy the dam stuff and it doesn't help when every time you look on wiggle or chain reaction there's to many god deals.

Haha.. In all honesty, the only reason I won't buy or use a road bike is purely because I'd shit myself whilst I was using it. I wouldn't be able to enjoy it because I'd be crapping myself the whole time!
Shame really because the benefits to fitness, especially during the winter, are easy to see.
There are a lot of narrow country lanes around here and they just scare the living daylights out of me lol

i can get to work 3 ways tbh. completely off road down the canal, bit of road followed by 80% old train lines or all road. ill not be doing the road option as not to keen on getting killed. ill use the car for earlys so ill do either 10-7 or lates to work on it off road. it comes with off road tyres and disc brakes. worth a go as one just sold on ebay today exact same as mine for £510. i paid £350 so can easily get rid if no good.
its light aswell. think its something like 22lbs.

To true. I started a new job in May (after getting sacked from my old one lol) I now work Monday to Friday 0600 till I finish .... any time between 1600-2000. Im usually to knackered to ride on weekends (and other reasons) I earn nearly as much as I used to ... but have to earn so much to pay the bills. I used to work some weekends so got days off in the week, which I miss.
Still, once the Mrs sells the house and gets a house of her own life will be better.

Working in a job that requires me to be in work at 0430 most mornings, pretty much work all weekends and any days off I do get I'm kinda required to come in if it evens wiffs of being busy.
The sooner I can get out the better. As long as I make enough to pay the bills I'll be happy.

I know I get slated for my cough road riding , but was out with Rick last nite 20 mile loop staying off most the main road and had a rite good old laugh n chat quite funny as rick trashes me on Mtb but my fitness on a road bike is better so I plod .. The one thing is I dont spend an hour cleaning my bike it gets chucked back in the man cave .. until the next time unlike my Mtb

( )gotta be honest i never saw myself riding one of these but im loving it, i split my hardtail for parts for the mega so been without a hardtail. in all honesty this is light and rides like a hardtail with skinny tyres. been out 3 times in last 2 days and done around 35 miles so more than ive done in ages. i wont be riding in lycra but ive left the reflectors on for on road and ill be buying a rear light for safety to. realy happy i bought this. ill get some mandatory shite pics against a fence and a pub bench with me holding a pint and post them up. off this road this is more than capable. yesterday on a local xc climb i flew past a couple of guys on mtbs but unlike a roadie i spoke and smiled lol. i would of prefered good rim brakes to poor disc brakes but they arent terrible. just used to hydraulic.

I did the whole career thing and it's all about the money. Fortunately I had a boss who moved me from my 2 hour commute to 20 mins when the kids arrived. I didn't appreciate it at the time as I thought it was a backwards step but I was home most days in time for tea as a family. Worked my way up and eventually lost the 24 hr on call phone etc. Then 4 years ago i started my own business, which has its stresses and odd early starts or late finishes but in the most has a really good work/life balance. Being Dad's taxi's stops me doing most things but in a year and a half my lad will be driving FFS where has that time gone!

I just live hand to mouth and barely survive, but have all the free time in the world to bike and do what "I" want. It's a balance of what works for you. Couldn't go back to the rat race now. Exactly. Used to work 80+ hour weeks and 24 hr call out. Loadsa money but no life. Kids are grown up and I'm single now so none of the pressure. I only work part time these days but as long as I can pay the bills and eat, I'm happy.
