While out a couple of weeks back we noticed a couple of tracks that looked interesting .. This time we are starting the route on the other side of the hill ..so we will actually get onto Bewick Moor itself ..and visit the ruin at Blawearie ..and do some new sections of trail as well ..result! The starting point is yet to be confirmed by CBM ..who is still working out the best way to tackle the route..but somewhere in the vicinity of Harehope ..which is accessed from the A 697 ( Wooler road ) and then after Wooperton Sawmill the B6346..the exact location tbc. This will include a lovely section of woodland singletrack which due to the closely packed contours on the map is "lost " to view almost ..and it's only due to close scrutiny that we found it ..this will only be the third time we have ridden it ..with no evidence so far that anyone else does Kick off at 10.00 am ...pics to follow ! Edit: the eagle eyed amongst you ( haha) will have noticed that there is a strong possibility that I won't be back in time to watch the Man.City v Toon match ...which I will record and only watch if the result is favourable ! No need to torture myself if there is no reason too!

He he.
Still can't make it.
Will probably be out for a bimble on the new bike around Kielder on Sun morning (prob the Osprey, maybe parts of the Deadwater too) if you want to join. Will probably involve lots of stopping and messing with pressures / settings on the suspension.

Although it would be good to catch up ..I won't make this on Sunday ..try the new bits on Deadwater ..and if you can be arsed cut off from all along the watchtower ..to do up and over ..which is a bit of a slog but leads into NDH's new bit ..which myself and Colin thought was fantastic ( with the exception of 2 large drop-offs! ) What new bike are you testing out ?
Edit : don't even attempt to try the skinny's on the top of up and over ..unless you fancy a trip in the air ambulance! Slippery as a slippy thing ...so expect wet feet !

A Blur Tr with 150mm pikes up front, XT 2x10 groupset. Stuck my old wheels, brakes, bars, stem, post and seat on. Hans Dampfs F & R. Have yet to give it a good thrash offroad but bimbling round the estate whilst out with the dog it feels nice. Think I need a shorter stem though (current one is 90mm). Yes, I'm now seriously overbiked!

The starting point for this ride has been set as Beanley ..we are parking in the farmyard ...Colin knows the farmer ! From the south A1 to just past Morpeth ..onto A697 to Powburn ..after the services take the first right and follow into Beanley . The farm is on the left . Kick off still 10.00 am . See you there !

Absolutely stonkin ride ..and if I was 30 years younger I would say that it was totally rad and to the max with gnar ..but I'm not ..so I'll settle for Stonkin Lots of cheeky bits ..moorland singletrack which isn't bridleway ! And all put together nicely by Colin Barkin Mad ..at a guess I would say that a good 50 % of that ride was on tracks that I had ridden before ..and certainly can't put into print but suffice to say that with age comes experience and he knows this area like the back of his hand . Good to have a good crew out and as usual the patter was spot on . Finally my apologies to Dave T ..who having said that it was his fault ..well I guess that some of it was mine .... Having the lead on a down I hadn't quite realised that Dave was so close behind me and overshooting our turnoff braked to a stop quite suddenly ...at the same time as Dave had seen an opportunity to get some air .. Trying to avoid me he got up close and personal with the ground damaging his neck in the process ..he did manage to take me out at the same time but no damage to me A stiff neck is on the cards for this evening ..hope that it's nothing more serious than that ! Being a tough unit he still insisted on finishing the ride . I would class this as being one of the top 3 rides I have done in Northumberland ..and I've done a few ! Many thanks again to Colin , Jean , Dave .Graham , & Jaco ...for a great day . Pics to follow later !

Bridleway up to this gate ... Then footpath after .. Well stuff that Especially when it's this good Blawearie ruin in the distance CBM ...nearly there ..is the kettle on ? Up close Daft lad Jaconelli ...seconds before the rope snapped It does not get much better than this Looking back from where we have been.the circular mound at 10.00 o clock as you look at the pic is the remains of an Iron Age fort[ The last bit of woodland singletrack There's more but that's enough to torture you with !

Great pictures Neil, and it was a cracking ride and quite a hard one too. Colin couldn't of organised better weather if he tried. My neck though still stiff is on the mend and a few bruises have appeared on my shoulder and writst, but no real harm, only a slightly dented pride. Next time before take off I will get clearance from air traffic control or maybe that should be before landing. Anyway it gives me a good excuse to get a new helmet.

Nice. Looking at the forecast for the weekend on Friday I would've loved to have been out yesterday but had to take the oldest ankle biter to a party. Cracking weather and top photos. I made do with Kielder in the snow today. First time I've been since the reworking of 3DC/Kersey. I like it. You're right Neil: the NDH crew have done a cracking job. Great stretch. Just need to get my skills & confidence back.

Andy ..there is space enough at Old Bewick . I'm assuming that you are doing the version in Derek Purdys book ...which is good but keep an eye out for the next time this is done as a group ride ..because the naughty bits are really class ! That apart when you descend Eglingham Moor down to Harehope make sure you turn right past the buildings ..climb up to the gate where the bridleway turns left and then after a fairly stiff climb up to some lightning scorched trees ..follow the bridleway through the deciduous woodland ..which is all legal ...on the map it looks like it comes to an end in the woods ..but it does not ..it comes out on the Tick Law bridleway ..where you can climb up to Blawearie again and drop back down to Old Bewick . It most definitely rides better clockwise ( climbing directly up to Blawearie from Old Bewick ) ..have fun !
