Hi Glynn I'll do it a bit later on this evening ...I have to meet Colin in Hexham with my luggage ..he is taking his car over on the ferry but could only get on the 7.00 am crossing tomorrow so is staying on the Ayrshire coast tonight Us cool kids are taking the 11.05 crossing as foot passengers ! It will be a nice distraction for me to do that as I have my fratchy knickers.on waiting for the off ....!

Ok Glynn The ride starts at High Tilberthwaite which is signposted off the main road from Ambleside to Coniston ..it's a very sharp right . There is a car park there ..on the MBR map it is marked as point 3 ..this is a cock up on their part ! Turn left out of the car park and follow it down to the farm and once past the buildings turn left onto a stony track ..all the way down to Low Hall Garth ..T junction turn right. At the ford turn R . 2nd left and climb around Hodge Close Make your way over Oxen Close..over the road Arnside Intake . Turn left to climb Iron Keld then drop down to the road on the b/w on the side of Black Fell / Park Fell. At the road turn left ( busy road ) and climb to the first road turning on the right and turn immediately right into a plantation which has a steep permissive track which drops steeply down to a wall at the bottom where we turn left and climb on a rooty track to Stang End where we turn left on a BOAT back to Hodge Close where we turn hairpin left at the cottages . Climb for 100 metres and go right ..through a gate and descend steeply to the road below . Go left and follow to the A593. Turn left and follow the road for 1km to a car park on the right. Climb on an unsurfaced road turning left at the junction with the road at the top and climb to Tarn How's car park. Take the permissive footpath at the back of the car park and descend down to hairpin left then second track on left. Turn right then left fork in the track to the road . Turn left on the road and then sharp right into Grizedale . Follow up to Lawson Park and drop down on a terrific bridleway to the road beside Coniston Water. Turn right and follow the shoreline to a T junction Right then left through a farmyard and into a b/way . At the junction with the A593 go right using the permissive path parallel to the road..turn left onto the road to Tilberthwaite ..and the sting in the tail with a climb to finish back at the car park . Hope this helps ..but I did copy some of the MBR wording ..it's a varied and spot on ride .

Not for no reason was this put forward as the best winter ride by MBR a few years ago . The surface is predominantly stony /rocky...so everything the weather can throw at it ..with maybe the exception of ice ..just gets laughed at by the trail ! Six of us turned out today and not a drop of rain to be seen It was great to meet Glynn ..top bloke and a bloody fit & technical rider to boot ..and another new rider ..Barry ..who although I had met before ..had never ridden with ..he was no slouch either ..but had to feel sorry for him when his back which had been giving him jip earlier in the week ..but had relaxed enough for him to start the ride gave way about two thirds of the way around and he had to retire via the shortest way back to the car . Not too many pics taken today as the highlights just kept on coming ..and who stops to take a snap when they are having a blast ? One of the pics I did take included two very fit looking girls ..Barry reckoned that one of them has featured in a Hannah Barnes vid ..however I was too busy looking at her ars...I mean bike to have noticed her face .... I will post some pics later ..but thanks to everyone for making it a class ride

A few pics.... Today's crew ....L-R clockwise Dave, Graham , Glynn & Jean ...Barry ! Where's Barry? At the top of Iron Keld ...with a cracker of a downhill to come ..there is a bit of Barry behind Dave Top Totty on the horizon ..that's some climb up there girls ..respect ! Getting closer ..hey there's Barry ! Graham ,Barry ,Jean ... Graham sorting out his rubber... C'mon Glynn ..don't be shy ! Not really ..he was trying to take a sneaky pic ! That's it ...like I said earlier ..you don't stop on the best bits !

That really was a very good day. Well led by Neil, from the back of course, where I was keeping him company most of the day, with Glynn and Barry tear-arsing about up the rocky roads like they were youngsters... oh, and so it seems they are... haha. Seriously, it was one of those days that tell you this is what it's all about. Hanging out with great people, meeting new ones, discovering jaw-droppingly beautiful landscapes, enjoying stunning views and vistas, ...and hammering down it like mental 14 year olds! Brilliant! Thank you thank you one and all.
