My lad thinks he's a stuntman. He jumps, manuals, wheelies etc ON HIS FECKING SCOOTER.
He also has a BMX which he rarely uses.
I'm just curious as to how you all got (if you did) your kids into MTB?
I'd like nothing more than to go riding with my boy but he shows no interest in the sport AT ALL.
He's a very active lad, football, scooter, running around like a retard with his annoying little dick-head friends.
He's 6 by the way so loads of time for him to become interested. I was kinda hoping it would be sooner rather than later!
Obviously, I don't want to push him into doing something he doesn't want to do but, maybe I can tempt him somehow?

you`ve hit the nail on the head in your last comment.the worst thing that you can do is to force him to like something,he might try to do it out of loyalty to you,but deep down if he`s not bothered he won`t put 100% into it.just take your time with him and see how it goes, kids change their minds depending on peer pressure and stuff, just be patient

I just took mine out and took him round some easy tracks with nothing that exciting on them and he started to enjoy it. Our boys sound quite different though. My oldest is quite a quiet and not very out going so I really made a big effort to make it fun for him to get him off playstation

He loves my bikes, we'll often be out the back with me pushing him around the yard!
He'll sometimes have my phone for a bit and search You Tube for 'scooter stunt' videos so, I tried showing him some MTB videos.
He watched them but he wasn't impresed.. I've thought about taking him to Stile Cop when the Racers Guild are there and watching for a bit..
My worry then would be that he'd want to start downhill riding lol

at least he's out doing something so it looks promising for the future, to many fat kids now so the fact that he is out on his scooter is good, eventually that will become boring and he will pick up a bike when he wants to jump and wheelie higher/longer etc
I struggle to get my daughter out on her balance bike, she prefers to just and fall over, she is only 2 1/2 though My poor lad though, almost 6 weeks old and he already has to wear Man City football shirts and has City wall paper on one wall If they ever resist i will force them to like what i like

to be fair my son has always loved biking but his interest was waining with mtb as his old bike was a bit knackered and had forks with no name . So I bought myself a new one and gave him my cube ltd pro. Now he wants to go to Degla every weekend!! I suppose there is a little difference between a £110 bike and a £900 bike. Went out for a 12k ride on Saturday and he gets up the hills as quick as i do.

I'm glad he's an active lad. He does love his scooter and that's why I bought him a £170 one I got him half decent BMX and he uses it every now n then. I'm pretty sure he won't use his BMX more because I make him wear a helmet and none of his friends do.. He has no problem wearing his 'stuntman helmet' when on his scooter though :/

My son is 14, 15 next month. He did the whole scooter thing too then road bikes, bmx (but he too stopped using it over the helmet issue, now he doesn't wear a helmet for going for a cruise round the village off road but if he is doing tricks he wears a helmet) Now into his mtb. Stupid thing is if he goes on the road bike or mtb he doesn't hesitate to put his helmet on but on a bmx it's just not cool. I've shown him gory pictures and articles about brain dead teenages to try and encourage him but it didn't work. At that age it is always "it won't happen to me" so frustrating!
Lowcogger - that last photo is awesome, bet you used to shit yourself everytime he went out

Someone's a proud dad. I'd love to be able to do all this with my boy one day! Must admit, I feel a tad of jealousy when I see 'dad's and lad's' on trails etc. One day, fingers crossed..

Missed the boat with mine - I've only been doing it for 3 years though. 18 year old came out a month ago for a pootle, said 'that was cool dad' but shown no inclination since. 21 year old no interest at all. Blame myself for getting em season tickets at the Blues as kids.
They've never forgiven me.

My 8 year old wasn't interested in mtb until I started to bribe him with chocolates pr an icecream after a ride. He loves now though ( but I still have to remember the chocolates!!!). The kid's love it over Sandwell valley, there's some small mtb tracks that are great to teach them berms rockgardens ect and a park to reward all their hard work.

I went out and found some trails with a mate.. That was enough to get me hooked!
I've always been into getting outside and being active. I hate sitting inside and doing nothing... Rarely watch TV, i'd rather be out in the garage fucking about with my bikes!
Have hung up my footballing boots so riding is now my main hobby. Wish i could go out with Dad, but he's more into his car racing. Going Karting with him is fun though.. He has a bike, but its an electric hybrid!

I hadn't given Sandwell Valley a thought.. I've seen a few videos and it looks pretty tame so, like you said, ideal for kids to try out MTB'ing. We'll have to pop over with his BMX the next time I have him.. Am I right in saying there's a pump track too?

I got into it with my dad by him taking me to Dixons Hollow at Dalby when I was nine. Been hooked ever since that! Started racing now too. Managed to win one of the Altura Nutcrackers and got an £80 voucher for altura clothing which makes it even more worthwhile!

Yeah, well a bmx track, but that's by the park and main carpark. The mtb tracks are by the swann pool carpark. We usually park on the swann pool car park (not quite as busy), let the kids have a play on the mtb track and ride up to the main cafe and park for an icecream and play.

Sort of. I crashed in my practice run and cut my arm open. Had to go to hospital and get stitches so I wasn't able to race.
