I tried asking them to go shopping before heading back and store it in their caravan fridge but didn't go down to well with added remarks like " do you not want to see your children after a week away" I felt I had to concede. oh well.

Alan has now decided to join us, so that's 3 of us plus Neil Colin and Graham and hopefully Dave and Jean, did anyone mention this ride to Russell ?

Yes ..I sent him an email the other day Ant... I think he's what's known as a " lurker " on this forum ..nowt wrong with that ..he knew of the ride but being a farmer no two days are the same ..and it will probably be a last minute decision ..he did reply to that effect

Whisper it quietly ...but it looks like the rain clears up this afternoon to give a dry evening and tomorrow is forecast dry with sunshine and cloud 17c ..which is almost tropical ! Sssshhh..... ( I would still pack a waterproof though!)

I really enjoyed it when I went last year, I set off to ride the north face trail but it wasn't that. Good so I went on this ride and was so pleased I did, I think you'll enjoy it

Having had a week of following weather forecasts most of which have been inaccurate even for the next few hours, I can't say I have a huge amount of faith in them but fingers crossed. By the way the car park charges £4.50 for over 2 hours unless you have a FC pass :-) Really looking forward to this see you all tomorrow.

Just a very quick note to say freakin' fabulous day up and down many of Grizedale's finest bridleways. Four long rocky rollercoaster rides and a tasty bit of sweet singletrack in 24 miles. Many thanks Ant, I think I'm agreeing with Hodgy now, I've upgraded it from my best Lakes ride ever, so far; to best ride anywhere ever, so far...
And obviously just because I feel a need to keep on saying it... no, I didn't. Not once, because I could take my stupid feet off the sensible pedals onto the ground whenever I bloody well wanted to... not that I felt the need to do that anywhere near half as much as when I didn't feel able to... but that's just me, others still manage better with their silly spring clip pedals than I can with my sensible and freedom feet...
There will be pics fom others but not from me cos I left my phone/camera charging in the kitchen.

As Graham has already touched on ...massive thanks to Ant for showing us around what I can say in all honesty was the finest 25 miles I have ridden anywhere ..and I don't say that lightly as over the course of the last 18 years there have been some unbelievable ..truly epic rides . So what made this one so good ..very simple the sheer quality of the 5 rocky technical downhills that were truly stunning ..inevitably there was a lot of link up sections quite a few of which involved a very stiff climb to where we needed to be ..and yes ..a lot of this was on forest fire road ..but even though this was a slog ..you were more than rewarded for your efforts . I don't really know the exact route ..but four of the drops that I can remember are ..from the Moor Top car park on the bridleway that passes closest ( doesn't really have a name ) to Grizedale Tarn , Breasty Haw , Lawson Park ..which was the only one I had been on before ..and although fantastic was probably the tamest ! ...and the b/way drop over Park Plantation down to the visitors centre ..there were others ..but picking a favourite is next to impossible . We even had time to fit in some of the red trail ..which under normal circumstances I might have been extolling its virtues ..but honestly compared to what had gone before that seemed pretty insignificant ! Keep an eye on this for when we return ..you'll be crying if you don't !

What a day, I first rode this area last year and was so impressed by it and I thought I must get the group down to ride it, I was a bit apprehensive in case no one liked it but I think we put that worry to bed after the first 2 miles, the company was fantastic the weather was fantastic and the trails were fantastic, not much more I can say , only disappointment of the day was we missed the chip shop in Haydon Bridge by 5 minutes

Couldn't believe that a chippy would close at 8.00pm on a Saturday evening ! After using the loos in The Anchor we looked for you and Paul but you'd gone ..we went to Paxtons chippy in Hexham where the cooked to order Haddock n chips with a mild curry sauce hit the mark ..I could have eaten a scabby hoss by then ! If you are reading this Colin ..I've ordered a tracking unit for your car!...this was the other disappointment of the day for having travelled further than any of us to get there it transpired that he missed the small signposted turning for Grizedale out of Hawkshead and got hopelessly lost ..ending up in Newby Bridge ..( easy to miss ..I did the same and if I hadn't had a co -driver in Graham might have shared the same fate) We did eventually catch up (he rode the red route ) at the visitor centre 3/4 of the way around..and he had enjoyed it ..but it's such a shame when one of your number goes missing from the get go ( it won't happen again after a discussion in the pub afterwards.) I have a few photos ..nothing too exciting I'm afraid ..and no one was going to stop for any action shots ..but there was talk of go-pros in the air ..I will post them later as for my sins I'm working today . Dave ,Jean ,Russell & Graham are putting a trail building shift in at Kielder too ..quite where they are going to find the energy from I don't know ..hats off to you ! Cheers to Ant once again ..having slept on it I still haven't changed my mind ..the best ride ever!

Mmmmm... nice profile 3,513 feet of climb, 22.7 miles, avg 6.3mi/h, max 37.4mi/h (although that last bit is a blur and just by the skinny skin skin of my teethy teeth teeth!)

Sounds like a belter, gutted to have missed it. Hope you had better weather than I had around hebden bridge, driving horizontal rain on the best descent of the day was hardwork with almost zero visibility.

Kirky ..as an adjective the word " belter " doesn't even come close to describing how good it was ...hope you have organised some better weather for the 15th ..we only do " sunshine " ...
