After today's excellent ride it was proposed that I lead this alternative Borrowdale bash ride from Keswick, meet beside the park , free parking if you get there early enough for a Ten o'clock start

After a chat with Hodgy we are going to postpone this ride until it's less busy later in the year so I will come up with a route starting in Grizedale forest, more details when I think of them

Meet at the moor top car park in Grizedale forest which is on the right about a mile before the visitor centre, the ride is basically the Grizedale & Esthwaite ride from the vp book but with an extra bit which includes the excellent Breasty Haw descent and there are plenty options when we get back to the visitor centre to either do some of the man made stuff or rejoin the original route which includes the descent at lawson park, one of your favourites Hodgy,, ten o'clock. Start

Looking forward to meeting this breasty whore ..have you had first hand experience of her Ant ..and what sort of price ..is she fairly expensive then 'cos you said she was excellent? ..or have I totally mis -read that ?
After your txt yesterday it looks like most of the likely culprits have been in touch one way or another ..Jaco had confirmed with you , Colin says he is coming ..Dave & Jean hopefully will ..Graham will have seen this post but is still making his mind up ( ?) ..and I'm coming too ..although I haven't a clue where the car park is .. Is there still the need to email everyone ? Kirky might even come from Burnley ...anyone else from down over ? All welcome ! Ps ..this ride is North West ...not N.E( for the benefit of BOT / Jay ) lol

Yes I should be there, I do need to get back to rendezvous and pick up my kids so a bit concerned about it turning into an eight hour epic.
Any rough approximations of the mileage, climb age? Looks like being a wet week leading up to it, for a change, does it hold up well if a little soggy.

The ride will be roughly 30 km and it is red graded, there will be an option to head back to the cars as we will be passing within a mile of the cars on the return so if we,re running late you can shoot off Kirky, the ride will be mostly rocky with some fire road some Tarmac and, there is one grassy descent through a wood which might be greasy but I think it will be fine, the car park is called moor top and it is on the right between hawks head and the Grizedale centre

To get to moor top car park go from Ambleside to Hawkshead , keep on the main road and when you get to the T junction at the end o Hawkshead turn right (it should be signposted Grizedale forest visitor centre )take the next right hand turn and at the top of the hill the car park is on the right, sorry if the directions are a bit vague but when I did this ride I started at Coniston as I was staying there,

So at 18.75 miles it shouldn't come anywhere near to being an 8 hour ride ..and the height gain should be a lot less than Bowderdale .... What time do you need to finish Kirky ?

Ideally 3pm latest 5 hours should be plenty okay but we all know group rides need more time to account for mechanicals et c.
To be honest the travelling time justifies at least a 4 or 5 hour ride a way,it's just too much more than that and I will be in bother. I'll come I just may have to duck out, push on or short cutif time starts to be a problem.

Does this by any chance follow any of the ride featured in this month's MBR?

Really sorry guys I'm going to have to drop out,I muted that I could pick up my daughters at 5pm which I thought may already be tight, but my parents were none to pleased as they are due back at 1pm with the kids from a caravan week and want me to collect them so they can go and do the big shop and sort themselves out.
I will have to bow to this pressure as they have already done a massive favour and stick to a shorter more local ride.
Really wanted to ride around grizedale as well.
Catch you in a coupled weeks.

Yep ..know where they are coming from ..we had to do the " big shop " on our return on Sunday .. It's not something you really give much thought to prior to going away ..having to spend in excess of 200 notes..because the cupboards are bare when you return ! But you've gotta keep it sweet for the next time ... See you soon
